Our Story

Denmark 2004, Anton is born with a rare eye disease, causing complete blindness. In distress and anxious of being hospitalised, surrounded by tubes, machines and away from his home, his mother starts to search for something which can comfort him. She finds the Minky dot blanket with small bubbles on, and it accompanies Anton doing his surgeries and comforts him. After Anton’s recovery, the medical staff speak about an increased awareness and calm from Anton when in contact with the bubble blanket. Intrigued by this, his mother donates a lot to the Neonatal ward and again reports of increased wellness, awareness and more stable cardiac rhythm is reported. She launches the first commercial production under the name Karma Kidz.

In 2010 Pernille bought the company after having seen her son’s enthusiasm for it. she says. " In a way it was my son who chose beyondbun, or what would one day become it. At birth he received this classic minky dot blanket from my mum and rather quickly it became his one and only ".

I began self educating about sensory development, tactile stimulation and what neuroscience had to say about this. All the research and studies showed strong correlations between sensory and tactile input and the cognitive development of a child.

In 2015 I left my job with Marchay, a luxury business traveller platform, and boarded a plane to Miami to meet with Dr. Tiffany Fields, head of the Touch Research Centre at Mailman University Hospital. Armed with her insight, I knew what I wanted to do - to create baby essentials that would actually make a difference.
