Something nice we came across: Reused Remade is included as an example in a book from Karlstad University.

In Service Innovation and Management (Springer, 2025), Klas Hedvall and Lars Witell write about how services help businesses move toward a circular economy. On page 93, they describe how Reused Remade turns retired hotel bed linen into bags and makeup pads, as an example of repurposing.

Here's why reuse comes before recycling in a circular system, with the numbers behind it.

Recycling matters. Reuse moves first.

When around 80% of a textile product’s environmental and climate impact occurs before it is ever used, keeping the material in use for longer is essential.

Upcycling: 64% of a textile product's climate and environmental impact saved.
Recycling: only 5–10% saved where 70-75% of the impact remains.

That’s why we keep retired hotel textiles in service first, as reusable packaging and products, and recycle once their reuse life is complete and repurposing/upcycling is exhausted.
