One month ago, the Apparel Recovery Coalition (ARC) launched in Kantamanto, Accra, bringing together founding partners H&M (), Inditex (), Bestseller () and Adidas () to explore how producer responsibility can better support communities most affected by the global flow of used clothing.
Hosted by the Kantamanto Obroniwawu Businesses Association (), the launch centred the voices of the people who work with and live with the consequences of the global secondhand clothing trade. Because solutions to fashion’s waste crisis must be shaped alongside the communities most affected.
As a founding partner and National Impact Lead for ARC’s first pilot in Ghana, we are working to connect community groups, government agencies, policy makers and industry stakeholders to advance more accountable and inclusive approaches to textile producer responsibility.
From introducing our Community Advisory Committee to facilitating engagements with Ghana Customs and the Ghana Used Clothing Dealers Association, launch week marked an important step towards strengthening collaboration across the value chain.
As the pilot progresses, we remain committed to ensuring that the people and ecosystems at the heart of this crisis are part of shaping its solutions.
