Growing up in a post-Soviet world taught me how to be strong, but it didn't teach me how to be honest with my dreams.

For years, I let my passion for fashion sit in the dark because I thought "failing" once meant I wasn't meant for it. I traded my sketches for spreadsheets and my silk for stability.

But you can’t keep a creative heart quiet forever.

Returning to design in my 40s feels different. I don’t need the world’s applause—I just need to tell the stories that matter. Stories of belts being unpicked to make dresses longer. Stories of resilience. Stories of us.

This is the rebirth of VAIDA.

The Belt Dress — a story of care, resilience, and quiet ingenuity.
During Soviet times, clothing and food were scarce. Nothing was wasted. Creativity was not a choice — it was a necessity.
My aunt lived in a world where garments were made to last, to adapt, to grow alongside the body.
When her daughter began to outgrow her dresses, there was no possibility of buying new ones. Instead, my aunt carefully unstitched old belts, pressed them flat, and sewed them onto the hem of the dress — adding just four centimeters, enough to give the garment new life and the child more time to grow.
This dress is inspired by that gesture.
Using old fabrics, I cut narrow strips, folded and ironed them, recreating the soft wave of an undone belt. Piece by piece, they were joined together to form a new fabric — and later, a new dress.
What was once a solution born from limitation becomes today a design language.
A tribute to resourcefulness, tenderness, and the beauty of making something more with what you already have.
