The LR42 U.S. Navy Dungaree Trouser is now available — online and at 13 rue Racine.

Inspired by the 1940s U.S. Navy trouser, the silhouette features a high waist with a wide, straight leg that falls cleanly from the hip. It is our easiest to wear style so far — worn through the warmer months with ease, and just as at home in autumn with leather shoes and a jacket.

The fabric is a 10oz selvedge dungaree with an indigo rope-dyed American cotton warp and a grey recycled cotton weft — slubby and neppy in texture, lightweight and breathable in wear. As the indigo fades over time, the grey weft gradually comes through, the trouser developing its own character particular to the wearer.

I can’t wait for you to see it for yourself.

Available now online and at 13 rue Racine.

Our new LR42 U.S. Navy Dungaree Trouser launches on 1 September — 150 pieces, online and at 13 rue Racine.

The fabric is where this project began. Developing the LR42 fabric meant finding an original 1940s U.S. Navy dungaree to study in depth — not just its construction, but the fabric itself. From this reference, we worked to reproduce the dungaree to the same yarn count and the same number of yarns as the original, woven on Sakamoto shuttle looms under conditions as close to the original as possible.

The result is a 10oz selvedge dungaree with an indigo rope-dyed American cotton warp and a grey recycled cotton weft — indigo on the exterior, grey within. The surface is slubby and neppy, with a natural irregularity that is the direct consequence of staying faithful to the original specifications.

With wear and washing, the fabric will fade organically, the indigo gradually giving way to reveal the subtly grey weft beneath — a fading that is particular to each wearer, and that becomes softer and more comfortable with time.

Our new LR42 WWII U.S. Navy Dungaree Trouser is launching next week. This is a very limited production - only 150 pieces will be available online and at 13 rue Racine on 1 September.

The LR42 is inspired by the 1940s U.S. Navy trouser: high waist with a wide, straight leg that sits naturally on the body with a relaxed ease. An easy to wear silhouette that can take you through workdays to weekends, and a lightweight fabric just as suited to warmer weather and cooler autumn days.

The construction observes the original archetype without compromise. The inseam and outseam are both flat felled and finished on a feed-off-the-arm machine. The slant front and round back pockets are bar tacked at their stress points, the button fly follows the specific sewing design of the period, and assembly throughout is carried out in a reddish black 100% cotton thread developed exclusively for the LR42. Special black enamel brass buttons embossed with the new Superstitch ‘S’ logo complete the construction.

The fabric is a 10oz selvedge dungaree woven on Sakamoto shuttle looms, developed directly following the original WWII U.S. Navy dungaree fabric and reproduced to the same yarn count as the reference. Indigo on the exterior, grey within — slubby and neppy in texture, and designed to fade organically and soften with every wear and wash.

See you on 1 September.

The LR14 is back in stock.

Our interpretation of the 1950s western denim « sawtooth » shirt — assembled from 10oz indigo denim. This production introduces two updates: rare deadstock mother-of-pearl effect snap buttons, collected across Japan, and a new paler yellow 100% cotton thread, chosen to resemble thread naturally faded by sunlight on true vintage pieces. As always, one contrasting button is placed at random on one cuff.

Available now online and at 13 rue Racine.

A new Union Special hemming machine is being lovingly restored at our Paris workshop. This precious original chassis was given to me by my friend and legend Takao-san. We found it in his atelier in Kojima, having been stripped of its parts, which were used to rebuild other machines — nothing more than a shell.

I decided to bring it back and give it a new life. Using parts from my own stock, and others that I manufacture myself, the machine is being rebuilt from zero. The journey to making it whole again and making it operational is just beginning.

As for the finishing touches — the repaint and the Superstitch logo — a little in-joke between sewing machine friends.
