WJP Knits

WJP Knits Scottish based eco sustainable, luxury hand knits. Designed and made by owner. Thank you for visiting my official page! WWW.NOVASCOTIAKNITS.COM ***

I’m Wendy Jane and I originally hail from rural north of Scotland and currently live in Royal Deeside. You may know me already as WJP Knits - my new website Nova Scotia Knits is a re-brand of this business.

“MY DESIGNS ARE A BLEND OF TRADITION AND CONTEMPORARY. I USE TRADITIONAL ELEMENTS - TECHNIQUES AND YARN, BLENDING THEM SEAMLESSLY WITH MODERN IDEAS AND STYLES. WORKING EXCLUSIVELY WITH SUSTAIN

ABLEY PRODUCED NATURAL YARNS (SHEEP - ECO-FRIENDLY, ORGANIC AND BIO DEGRADABLE) THAT ARE PRODUCED IN THE NORTH OF SCOTLAND (WHERE I LIVE) BY A HERITAGE FAMILY RUN YARN SPINNER/DYER CALLED JC RENNIE, WHO HAVE BEEN PRODUCING THE FINEST QUALITY OF YARNS SINCE 1798. I'M A HUGE SUPPORTER OF THE SLOW FASHION MOVEMENT - MOVING AWAY FROM MASS MANUFACTURING AND FOCUSING MORE ON THE QUALITY OF HAND MADE. WHICH IS WHY I HIGHLY ENCOUARGE PEOPLE TO CREATE THEIR OWN CLOTHING. WHEN AN ITEM HAS BEEN HAND MADE, YOU APPRICIATE MORE NOT ONLY THE QUALITY, BUT THE WHOLE CREATIVE PROCESS AND THE DEDICATION OF THE ARTISAN WHO HAS LOVINGLY MADE THE ITEM. YOUR CLOTHING SHOULD LAST A LIFETIME - NOT JUST A FEW MONTHS.”

Coming from Scotland, knitting is a way of life for many people and I was first taught how to knit when I was only 5 years. Moving forward to the age of 18, I was very lucky to start working as an apprentice for the designer Val Whyte where I specialized in machine knitted fair isle garments. Whilst working there I was given the opportunity to create several sweaters for three members of the British royal family. I worked there for around 3 years then moved to Aberdeen where I completed an HND in Media. Flash forward to 2005 and I moved away to London and ended up doing all manner of interesting jobs such as value items for an auction company and working in TV. 2012 saw me starting my own business as I knew this was the route that was best for me so I started selling true vintage ballgowns and wedding dresses from the 20s to 50s. During my start up year, I was involved in a life changing accident that left me with mobility issues. I introduced hand made velvet kimonos to my business that I made myself and I received lots of media features for them including Unfolded magazine in the US and Company magazine in the UK.

2016 saw me move back home to my roots in rural Scotland and I made the choice to go back to my passion of knitting and so WJP Knits rose up from the ashes. Where I live, is fairly close to the JC Rennie mill and Johnstone’s of Elgin and Knockando mills are also within easy distance of my home. Knitting is a true passion to and its a craft that is wonderful mindfulness, relieving stress, training your brain and great for training hand/eye co-ordination, as well as staving off dementia and is a great focus for those have issues such as ADHD, autism etc. For myself, I love the way you can play around with knitting and bring so elements into it - function, form, colour, surface design and texture. You create the textile as well as the garment. Working with natural yarns such as lambswool or cashmere is a joy. For the most part, I use Scottish spun yarns for sustainability and high quality. Pure wool is a natural fiber that is bio-degradable and environmentally friendly. Working with wool is important to myself and my designs. As well as this website, you can also find my designs on Ravelry, Love Knitting and Etsy. Be sure to follow me on Facebook and Instagram too! When I'm not knitting, I enjoy taking moody monochrome photos of my life's journey. Happy Knitting!

Hi all!
Hope you are all well.
You’ll find that I’ve now closed down my knitwear biz and have now moved back into the vintage & antique world. Just so you know, I used to work for a global online auction company as well as selling vintage in my own eBay shop and I’m progressing forward to using my Vinted store as my main biz. Please join me on Vinted for lots of treasures.
I will be changing my using name - I’m working on a couple of names just now. Anyway, I’m clearing out my yarn stash on there and they sell sooooo very quickly - today’s listing sold on one minute of listing!
I have lots of my own vintage jewellery to add in the forthcoming months so drop past my store for my latest daily additions. I normally list at lunch time, incase you want to get in there quickly!
Thank you to everyone who has supported me in my knitting work. Onwards and upwards to the vintage adventure and new FB page coming soon. 🔜 Who know whet you may find down the rabbit hole …..

I had so many plans for the weekend, but currently dealing with the smoke from the wildfires in the Cairngorms. It’s utterly horrifying. Can’t breathe as my town is covered in smoke and the smell is horrible. I must admit, I’m very worried as getting worse.
Praying for rain to damp it down.

Hi everyone!
I’m going to switch my website and Vinted back on next week until I move.
As I’m going back to designing knitting patterns, I’d really like to sell my physical stock in hand for clearance as my new house may be rather small - one bedroom bungalow. So I’m open to offers on any hand knits, otherwise, I’m considering donating them to charity just to save space.
Thank you x

Hi everyone!
I really wanted to have a good chat with you all. I’m going though a lot just now and desperately need to move house as my father has dementia and cancer. I’m trying my hardest to live closer to him as his time is now limited.
Due to this, everything is up in the air. I think I’m making headway but it’s then a backwards step. Please bear with me as I have so much going on just now and I no longer have a clue what I’m doing.
Thank you x

Beautiful cherry blossom 🌸 at the end of my street.
I’m so blessed to have this tree on a few steps away from my door and the footpath is carpeted in pink petal snow.
Ok my lovelies. Here’s the story. I’m so very busy and my daily routine is fitting around Rebecca. As it stands, my knitting time is so greatly reduced - literally down to 2 and half hours in the afternoon. It makes things so hard to get any real work done, so my most sincere apologies for my lack of website updates. That will come soon in the form of what I previously promised but stalled on - re-publishing my patterns and planning new designs.
It’s like the tortoise and the hare. Rebecca is the hare ave I’m the slow old tortoise. I will get there eventually. Bear with me. In the meantime, I’m busy clearing out my crazy yarn stash on Vinted.
Thank you x
