Setting up Fred's Shed Antiques & Restorations stemmed from a love of restoring old furniture and learning French polishing techniques in my spare time. I now run it as a full time business and operate from my workshop in Tibshelf near Alfreton, Derbyshire. To me, there is nothing more satisfying than transforming an unloved piece of furniture into something that will once again be looked after an

d appreciated for many years to come. I prefer the traditional methods of furniture restoration, so if possible I use hide glue on joints and melted beeswax to fill cracks - both of which are reversible and allow for future conservation (unlike modern glues and fillers). I never offer anything for sale in a state of disrepair and all the items I sell are solid and usable. As well as antique sales, I offer a French polishing and restoration service. It's named after two Freds - one is Fred Dibnah, the Bolton steeplejack, who inspired me to build my own garden workshop, and the second Fred is someone who was like a Grandad to me when I was growing up.
