Annan Academy News

Annan Academy News Annan Academy is a 6 year comprehensive Secondary school based in the south west of Scotland. It has a role of approximately 950 pupils.

Annan has nine cluster primary schools which are; Carrutherstown, Cummertrees, Eastriggs, Elmvale, Gretna; Hecklegirth; Newington, Springfield and St Columbus. Visitors to the Academy will notice that while most of the school buildings are modern, there is a part which dates back further. The old building incorporating the bell-tower dates back over a century to 1895. This is a constant reminder o

f the school's history and its origins. Recent refurbishment has created an enhanced learning environment for staff and pupils. A leading example of this is the new Performing Arts building situated towards the rear of the school. At Annan Academy we have a hardworking, dedicated and passionate staff who deliver the curriculum in an innovative and engaging manner. In order for this to be achieved pupils at Annan Academy are expected to give their best in all facets of their education. The school has a uniform policy which all pupils must adhere to; shirt, tie, black trousers/skirt/dress, black footwear. As a school we offer a vibrant extra-curricular programme to all pupils providing them with the necessary skills to be successful in their chosen career path. Highlights of this include a number of educationally relevant excursions, the opportunity to be involved in a variety of sporting teams and the production of junior and senior shows. Annan Academy is also working towards the LGBT Schools Charter. We committed to this programme in Autumn 2018. The programme has been developed to support schools to undertake training and review policies, practice and resources to make sure that Annan Academy meeting legislative needs and is as inclusive as we can be. We look forward to involving community partners, parents and pupils, both past and present in the achievements and successes of our young people.

In order to justify our enthusiasm and engagement in the recent Hidden Treasurehunt competition, we have now had another level of hoops put in our way to jump through. Yet more surveys have been sent to a large number of participants. Any of these surveys that are not completed will lose us all of that person's hard-earned points.

Unlike ANY other schools in the top runnings of the competition our term time has ended so lots and lots of our community will be away on holiday, but even if you are, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE check your inboxes AND your spam folders to see if you have one of these surveys to complete. If you do then please DO complete it because otherwise your hard-earned points for our school will be removed. This is DESPITE you having already verified each and every recycling log you have done. And despite the competition already being over. So make sure your colleagues, classmates and friends all check if they've been sent a survey too. We are very sorry that this inconvenience has happened all over again.

Those of you who have now left the school no longer have access to your school emails and therefore can't access any surveys that have been sent this morning. We have let the competition runners know of this - however, as yet, we have no idea what this will mean for those points.

A fantastic effort by our school community! Letโ€™s keep our fingers crossed!!๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป

We are still on tenterhooks along with everyone else. We may have to wait till the 14th July for confirmation ๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–๐Ÿ˜–

But we want to give an enormous thank you to our whole community for getting us here. Pupils, staff, families, local businesses, local media, and the whole community have really got behind our school and reinforced to us what an amazing force of kindness, teamwork, enthusiasm, stamina and generosity we have ALL around us. And all led by excellent example by our Miss Todd. We are very VERY lucky to have you.

Every little thing that has been done by every single one of you, to help along the way, has been a very big deal to us. We appreciate it all more than you know. What a great confidence to instil in the pupils of Annan Academy - that their whole community are rooting for them. Whatever prize is won will be great, but that feeling will always be even greater ๐Ÿฅฐ Thank you all ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›

A great big enormous thank you to all of you out there staying up super late and rising at crazy o'clock to get our last minute electrical recycling registered and counted.
The clock is now very much ticking till the deadline at noon. Give a cheer in the comments to spur us all on. It's only the cheers and the caffeine that are getting us through today! ๐Ÿ’ค

We are now in the VERY final push in the electrical recycling competition. The prizes are awarded by places on the Leaderboard at noon THIS MONDAY!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE remember to log any recycling you do EVERY single day that you do it and also VERIFY the email that then comes through to you. This is CRITICALLY IMPORTANT otherwise we don't get the points that you have earned for us. We want to save the planet but we also want the prize that the Annan Academy community have all worked incredibly hard for.
We are at the top of the leaderboard at the moment but these last few days really are going to be precarious ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Our final running club session of the year was another mystery tour which involved some long and short road reps , hill reps and some easy running in between. Our students have once again been fantastic all year round and have run in all weathers, having fun, getting fit and enjoying making friends along the way. Here are some of our students with their well deserved certificates. Running club will be back after the break, on Tuesday 25th August. We look forward to seeing some new S1 's also who will be made very welcome, because as we know (apart from that one time), running club is always on.

Congratulations to Isabella Wilson for winning Juneโ€™s Annan Anchor Wellbeing Challenge!

Isabella submitted a photo of herself performing at Youth Beatz Festival โ€“ a fantastic achievement and a great example of doing something positive for her wellbeing. Performing, dancing and taking part in activities you enjoy can all have a positive impact on wellbeing.

Thank you to everyone who entered this monthโ€™s challenge. We loved seeing all the different ways you look after your wellbeing. Keep an eye out for our next Annan Anchor challenge when we return in August.

A big thank you to Lush Carlisle for kindly donating the voucher prizes.
