This beautiful bridal hat has been tucked away in its original box since my mum wore it on her wedding day in 1973.
Designed by Gibbons of London and named Christina, it may just be a hat to some people, but to me it was the beginning of a lifelong love affair with millinery.
As a child, I was absolutely fascinated by it. I would carefully lift it from its box and admire every detail. The wide brim, the delicate lace, the soft pink roses... it seemed so elegant, feminine and magical. To me, it encapsulated everything a hat should be.
Looking at it now, more than 50 years later, I can see how much it influenced me. Long before Halo Studio existed, long before I ever blocked my first hat, this little bridal hat had already captured my imagination.
Perhaps that is why hats have always felt like more than fashion to me. They carry memories, tell stories and connect generations.
Who would have thought that a little girl's fascination with her mother's wedding hat would one day become a career?
