DEMENTIA BEAR ❤️
Introduction.
A year ago, God gave me the idea for dementia bear, due to distractions it did not materialise. But, if it’s God’s plan then it will always make it’s way back to you if you are seeking. Fast forward 1 year and i have just been diagnosed with a Moderate Bilateral Frontal Involution, which is a Frontotemporal Disorder ( FTD ) Basically the front of my brain is shrinking. Ironically a nhs dementia nurse from the memory clinic has been out to do a memory assessment on me this morning, which will be compiled and forwarded to my consultant who with my ct-scan should give me an official diagnosis, there are over 100 different forms of dementia. All that being said. I present to you, Dementia Bear…
Product Description:
Dementia Bear is a Handcrafted Multi-Sensory Stimulation ( MSS) Teddy Bear. Combined with cognitive tasks, which can slow the decline of dementia. Also improving mood, communication and overall quality of life. ( Source: National Institute of Health )
Colour coordination is carefully incorporated into the design of dementia bear, with the primary colour being Red, which is scientifically proven to influence memory performance by increasing attentional level. The other colours used in production are, yellow, which studies show improves mood and stimulates the mind & increases ability to recall. Blue has a calming effect whilst improving concentration, the darker stronger shades support the brains thought process, improving cognitive performance. Dementia bear has various textured fabric finger loops on each ear as people living with dementia show anxiety in their hands and find fiddling with things a comfort. The body consists of one side a functional multi-purpose zipped pocket which can be used not only for maintaining fine motor skills by zipping & unzipping but also can hold personal belongings inside the pocket. People living with dementia would likely be repetitive in opening & closing this area/replacing their belongings as repetitiveness is a common behaviour exhibited in dementia. On the other side of the body is a denim pouch with an attached Napkin, pre-folded with set creases & lightly stitched to follow alignment to avoid any frustration. Repeatedly folding items have the potential to be playful & satisfying for people living with dementia. The Left facing Arm consists of 3 denim buttoned/buttonholed straps, as dementia affects fine motor skills, having a person with dementia work with buttoning & unbuttoning serves a number of meaningful goals. This activity aids maintaining fine motor skills & provides a sense of accomplishment. The Right facing Arm is eyeleted with rope to replicate the tying of bows/shoelaces or simply knots which also help maintain fine motor skills. The rope used has been carefully chosen so the care giver can easily untie even the tightest of knots by getting in-between the robust fibres. A fantastic addition to this arm is the bear holds a keyring. The possibilities are endless for this feature. Maybe pop on their original keys they have carried all their life which may include novelty keyrings and photo keyrings. We tend to accumulate all sorts of keyrings in our lifetime, from daytrips, theme parks or holidays. The photo keyrings would be fabulous for this feature to promote a sense of self worth by enhancing wellbeing through the sharing of happy moments bringing immense joy & fulfilment by envoking memories, also aiding in memory retrieval. The Left facing leg consists of eyeleted pipe play. This holds profound therapeutic value. This area is a great way to entertain and pass the time whilst focusing their mind. The Right facing leg has finger loops for fiddle purposes and hugging. And finally, not only does Dementia Bear cover so many aspects of MSS and purposeful tasks, he also gives the best hugs ! With his life size 22 inch in height, 18 inch in the seated position & his fully cotter-pin jointed limbs. His arms can be manoeuvred to cuddle back ! His legs to sit on the hip ! His head to rest & snuggle ! Making Dementia Bear the perfect comforting cuddle buddy. Creating contentment, inspiring peace, love & happiness. Dementia Bear will become a best friend for your loved one ❤️ P.s The feedback from the dementia nurse this morning was fantastic 🥰
