A real piece of local history has landed today.

This is Llanbradach Colliery, drawn by John Phillips in 1952. In South Wales, the history of the mining industry touches us all. Many fathers and grandfathers would have worked in this very mine.

Llanbradach Colliery closed in 1961. At its peak, 3000 men worked there. When this scene was drawn, the pit was still active and still a part of the town's daily life.

I would love to hear from anyone who remembers it, or whose family worked there.

Bought these 3 original paintings at a car boot sale for £25.

There were no famous signatures but there was clearly a skilled hand at work.

One of Fair Head and Ballycastle beach two of Finchingfield in Essex.

Now listed at £75, £65 and £65.

Would you have bought them?

I bought this small Inuit seal carving at an antiques fair in the UK for £20.

After researching it, the artist’s son recognised it online as his father’s work.

For me, it represented profit. For his family, it represents something made by their father.

Tomorrow it is being sent to him as a gift. Once it arrives, I hope to share more of the story if the family are happy with that.
