I can be a bit cynical about viral sewing projects but I have to say a client has knocked the viral tie top out of the park this evening!

This is going to make up a part of her GCSE art and I love it so much!

Changes we made include, the ties being top stitched on to reduce bulky seams, two extra ties so it actually covers a bust, darts on the outer ties to add shape and a plated back rather than a potentially insecure knot.

Do you find long lines of sewing the trickiest? You are not alone, many beginners find it easier to sew a curve that you have to keep the fabric turning than a long straight seam.

My three top tips for this are:

🧵 Pin, pin, and pin again. Boring but it will keep your fabric pieces from separating and taking them out is a reminder to check and reorganise your fabric.
🧵Keep an eye on what the rest if your fabric is doing. It's easy to lean on a big piece of fabric and throw your seams out.
🧵Find a spot and keep your eye on it. Remember, your hands are to gently guide, not to put too much pressure on the fabric.

Oh, and for complete beginners, don't forget to breathe!

Appliqué two ways and freestyle embroidery - all in one class - 15th and 18th June.

It's so easy to get in the way of thinking that you must be making a thing useful. Sometimes it's nice to slow down and do something fun.

I do goggle at my cute but basic freehand embroidery flowers compared to the incredible elephant a student did. We can't all be artist prodigies but that should stop us having fun. 😍

You may have noticed I've been somewhat quiet on the socials recently. The last couple of years have been difficult health wise for me and they have now discovered the root cause - .

The treatment is going to put me into early(ish) menopause and I'm now looking at my wardrobe working out what will be the best things to wear.

I'm going to do a series on what to sew for menopause so if you have any recommendations for me to try I'll try to remember to sew them!

First up is a loose fitting long dress from .rosy.cheeks. I'm not normally a long skirt person but no one needs to see my bare legs in their bright white glory! Self drafted funnel neck because I'm weird about rubbing necklines. Also a full bust adjustment because of silly boy bust. 😆
