House of Marmorino

Lusso – simply translated means Luxury and that’s exactly what Marmorino is - sheer and utter Luxury. A decorative wall covering that doesn’t need to be touched up every two years like ordinary paints. However, accidents do happen – so in the case of scrapes, scuffs, and chips – they can be quite easily repaired – a quick sand down and the product can be reapplied – with no unsightly seams or join

ts. This lime based product mixed with marble dust and other bonding components is applied with a stainless-steel trowel. Three – four coats are applied – the first is left for twelve – twenty-four hours, the second is followed by the third as the second starts to dry. This is where the shine is achieved by pressing hard on the trowel as the second coat start to dry. The finished effect gives the impression of Marble – both to the eye as well as to touch and will appear different each and every time it is applied.

‘Lime’ refers to Quicklime and is made through heating Limestone (Calcium Carbonate) at high temperatures in a kiln. The Lime (Calcium Oxide) produced can then be rehydrated to form Hydrated Lime (a powdery substance), or ‘slaked’ and matured for 2 -3 months in an excess of water to create Lime Putty (which has a similar texture to toothpaste). During the heating process, Carbon Dioxide is emitted, but this is reabsorbed when the lime materials slowly dry, set and harden. The re-absorption of Carbon Dioxide completes the ‘lime cycle’ returning the lime putty to stone. Marmorino is just one style of polish plastering and can be used in both interior and exterior. The natural lime putty – or as it is known in Italy – Grassello Di Calce - is water resistant and allows walls to breathe, thus eliminating the growth of mildew and there are over twenty-two style techniques, 650 different Colours combinations, as well as several different finishes to choose from.
