How lovely would it feel to be able to teach your child to sew? 🧵

Imagine helping them make their first cushion, bunting, little bag, costume, or handmade gift — and watching their face light up as they say, “I made that!”

Sewing is such a wonderful skill for children. It helps build confidence, patience and concentration, while also encouraging creativity, problem-solving and fine motor skills. Children learn that mistakes can be fixed, ideas can grow, and that they are capable of making something with their own hands.

My next Beginners Sewing Course starts on Tuesday 30 June at Susan’s House in Bexhill, and this is the last chance to grab a space.

This course is for adults who would love to learn the basics in a relaxed, friendly setting — whether you want to sew for yourself, make things for your home, or feel confident enough to support your children with simple sewing projects too.

Course details:
🧵 6-week beginners course
🧵 1.5 hours each week
🧵 Small group — maximum 3 people
🧵 Machines supplied
🧵 Materials supplied for the first learning sessions
🧵 You are welcome to bring your own machine if you have one

✨ From unfinished project to “I can do this” ✨

One of my lovely learners brought this beautiful dress along to my 6-week beginners sewing course.

She had cut it out two years ago, but didn’t feel confident enough to make it up on her own.

By week 6, look how far she had come. The dress is nearly finished — just the pockets and hem left to do — and the best part is, she now feels confident enough to finish it herself at home.

She has even bought herself a sewing machine so she can carry on with her new skill. 🧵

I was also so touched to receive a lovely thank-you card from her, saying how much the classes have helped her confidence.

This is what I love most about teaching sewing — it isn’t about being perfect, it’s about learning, trying, building confidence and realising you really can make something beautiful.

My next 6-week beginners sewing course starts on Tuesday 30 June at Susan’s House.

I already have one lovely learner booked on, and I’d love one more to join us.

Message me if you’d like more details.

✨ This is what learning a new skill can lead to… ✨
This week was the final week of my current 6-week Beginners Sewing Course, and I was so touched to receive a beautiful thank-you card from one of my lovely learners.

She came along as a beginner, and by the end of the course she had started making her very own Roman blind. She now has clear instructions to finish it at home — and I have every confidence she will do just fine. She has already made some wrap around trousers and a halter top to go over her swimsuit, so look out for a stylish lady near Cooden Beach! This was all achieved in 6 weeks, on the first lesson she was a complete novice!

Even better, she has bought herself a new sewing machine so she can carry on with her new skill. That makes me so happy. 🧵

This is exactly why I love teaching at Susan’s House — it’s not just about sewing, it’s about growing confidence and realising what you can make with your own hands.

My next 6-week Beginners Sewing Course starts on Tuesday 30 June, and I currently have one space filled. I’m still deciding whether it will run in the afternoon or evening, depending on interest.

And with Hastings Pirate Day coming up in July, this could be the perfect time to learn how to make something fun — perhaps a pirate outfit, sash, skirt, waistcoat, or little costume piece for your little people. 🏴‍☠️

Beginners are very welcome, and you’ll be gently supported step by step.

Message me if you’d like more details or would like to reserve a space.

Been really busy this weekend after the gym finished off with 108 sun saltations I went home and did more to our outside living room. The curtains came from my hallway, I made them a few years ago and was never happy with them. I am now. My children are just waiting for my next mad idea. I seem to have many. Off to see a burlesque showcase put together by Pupin DeVert. It will be amazing as always 😍
