🧵 Would a Thursday afternoon sewing course suit you? 🧵

I currently have 2 spaces left on my next evening Beginners Sewing Course, but I’m also thinking about adding another 6-week Beginners Sewing Course on Thursday afternoons at 3pm.

Before I add another date, I’d love to know if there’s enough interest.

The course is for complete beginners and runs for 6 weeks, with 1½ hours of tuition each week in a very small group of just 1–3 people.

You’ll spend the first couple of weeks learning how to use the sewing machine confidently, then move on to making your own projects and building your skills.

POLL:
Would you be interested in a Thursday afternoon course at 3pm?

🧵 Yes, definitely
✂️ Possibly — I’d like more details
🌙 No, I’d prefer an evening course

If there’s enough interest, I’ll look at adding the Thursday afternoon course.

🎉 THE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON BEGINNERS SEWING COURSE IS NOW FULL! 🎉

I’m so pleased to say that all the spaces on my Wednesday afternoon 6-week Beginners Sewing Course have now been taken. 🧵✂️

I absolutely love teaching these small groups. With only 1–3 people in each course, everyone gets plenty of individual help, time to ask questions and the confidence to learn at their own pace.

Over the six weeks we start right at the beginning — getting comfortable with the sewing machine — and then move on to making a project and building skills that you can keep using for years to come.

A huge thank you to everyone who has booked. I’m really looking forward to welcoming you into the Susan’s House studio and seeing what you create. 💕

And if you missed out this time, don’t worry — I’ll be sharing details of future courses too.

🧵 NEW – SEWING WITH CONFIDENCE: 6-WEEK COURSE ✂️

Ready to move beyond the basics?

My new Sewing with Confidence course is for anyone who has completed my beginners course, or who can already sew simple projects but would like to develop their skills and tackle something a little more challenging.

Over the 6 weeks, you’ll have the chance to work on more involved projects, learn new techniques, solve problems as they arise and become much more confident working independently.

This isn’t about everyone making the same thing. It’s about helping you stretch your sewing skills and choose projects that excite you.

📅 Starting Wednesday 4 November

🕖 7pm

🧵 6 weekly sessions

👥 Small group – maximum 3 people

📍 Susan’s House, Bexhill

If you can already thread your machine, sew a reasonably straight seam and complete a simple project, this could be the perfect next step.

Message me if you’d like more information or would like to reserve a place.

🧵 6-WEEK BEGINNERS SEWING COURSE – OCTOBER DATES NOW OPEN! ✂️

Have you always wanted to learn to sew but never quite known where to start?

My 6-week beginners course is designed for complete beginners. We start with the basics — getting comfortable with the sewing machine, threading, stitching and building confidence — then move on to making a project of your choice.

New course dates:

✨ Wednesday 21 October at 2pm – ONLY ONE SPACE LEFT

✨ Thursday 22 October at 7pm

Each session is 1½ hours, once a week for 6 weeks, in a small friendly group of no more than 3 people.

The full 6-week course is £170.

You don’t need to own a sewing machine — machines are available to use, or you’re very welcome to bring your own.

The photos in this post are just some of the things previous beginners have achieved after starting with very little or no sewing experience. ❤️

If you’d love to learn a skill you can use for years to come, send me a message to reserve your place.

Hey people. Thought I would share this. Love a bit of recycling!

FREE!!!!
Calling all teachers, nursery workers, community workers, sewers, individuals who like to recycle, makers of all things fabric. We have black sacks full of fabric off cuts going free to good homes. Ask any of our volunteers and they’ll get one out for you.
It’s pot luck what’s inside but if your creative there’s a use for everything 😀

A lovely reminder that my 6-week Beginners Sewing Course is about so much more than learning to sew. 🧵❤️

One of my lovely clients, Samantha Jane, who came along to the course recently surprised me with these beautiful vintage Rayne shoes — and even better, they fit me! 👠✨

I’ve since discovered that Rayne was one of Britain’s most prestigious couture shoemakers, supplying shoes to royalty, high society and film stars. Sir Edward Rayne, who headed the company for many years, also had a connection to Bexhill, where he died in 1992.

What an amazing gift and a little piece of fashion history that I will treasure. ❤️

But what I love most is what the gift represents. When people come to Susan’s House they may arrive wanting to learn how to use a sewing machine, make a garment or alter their clothes, but along the way we chat, laugh, share stories and get to know one another.

You don’t just learn to sew — you make connections with people too, and sometimes those connections lead to the loveliest surprises.

A huge thank you to my very thoughtful client. I absolutely love them. 🥰👠

Look what I found in a local charity shop.

Cleaned her, oiled her, wound a bobbin and altered some curtain tie backs.

Our home was build in 1863 and one of the 3 daughters was a seamstress, she would have sewn by hand or used a treadle I guess, she would have loved this, now it’s my new toy.

I would like to give her a name, any suggestions?🧵❤🥰

✨ £170 for a skill you can use for the rest of your life ✨

This beautiful dress was the result of Weeks 4 and 5 of my latest 6-week Sewing for Beginners course — made by someone who had started the course as a complete beginner. 🧵✂️

Then in Week 6, instead of starting another project, we concentrated on something just as useful — altering clothes she already owned. One top that didn’t fit properly was altered, along with shortening two others. Photos of those to follow!

That’s what I love about learning to sew.

For £170, you’re not just paying for six lessons. You’re investing in a skill that can save you money, help you alter clothes as your body changes, repair things instead of throwing them away, and give you the confidence to make something completely from scratch.

The first two weeks are all about getting comfortable with the sewing machine and learning the basics. Then you have four weeks to work on projects that you choose, with lots of individual help along the way.

Small groups of just 1–3 people mean there’s plenty of support and no pressure.

A few weeks of learning… but hopefully a lifetime of sewing. ❤️
