acme inc was established in Bexhill-on-Sea in 1994 and has developed a reputation for selling outstanding examples of fine and applied art and design from the last two hundred years. An original chair from the Deutscher Bundestag. Designed by Johannes Krahn and very much in the Scandinavian modern manner. Hans Schwippert was the architect who redesigned and expanded the Bonn building for the German Bundestag, the first German postwar parliament in 1949. The furnishings were designed to be of a restrained democratic style and these chairs were chosen by Schwippert as the “Bundestuhl”. In stock now, so original!

Just in, this tubular steel and moulded ply chair by Albert Stoll. Illustrated in the company’s catalogue of 1930 this one would date to around that time. Plenty of wear to ply and chrome gives it that well lived in look.

An early bentwood chair. This is one needing a bit of research, we are hoping someone can shine some light on this one please! It is not in the best condition- one of the side stretchers has been replaced with a well cut replica in ply and there are a few old worm holes . It looks a quite traditional, Victorian chair reworked in design to allow bentwood techniques and it does have some Thonet like features but no makers marks . One of three identical chairs.
