Climate meltdown
Last night you might have read about fires in London and a big chunk of the internet going down due to some servers being unable to cope with the hot hot heat. Some users may have experienced latency or outages on New Bridge as we were caught up in that too.
Google's UK infrastructure had what they described as a "cooling issue" (we prefer "meltdown") which shut their Europe West data centre. Quite a major event, but then climate change is getting real these days...
Extreme temperatures like this are a clear symptom of the climate crisis - a systemic problem that is having increasingly unpredictable consequences. Whilst we can take technical measures today by floating our data across many different locations to avoid issues like this, the root cause of the problem is what needs to be dealt with.
We need all businesses to switch to renewable energy now or we will continue to see increasing climate chaos affecting everything from weather to wildlife to infrastructure.
New Bridge already runs on solar and wind power, making us carbon neutral. But we need other businesses to do their part too.
