Hello September & hello Autumn! πŸ‚πŸπŸŒΎ

Whilst there are things about every season that I like, autumn is my favourite 😍

I love getting cosy inside, curled up with a good book & some warm pumpkin spiced milk/hot chocolate, or doing a jigsaw, plus pottering outside looking for πŸ„ or my favourite Scabious & in a few weeks I'll be able to crunch on the fallen leaves.

For years I attended nightclasses & got excited when the new list came out, but more recently I set myself a winter challenge instead. This could be starting on a big project or learning a new skill, whether knitting, embroidery or quilling.

Which season is your favourite? What things do you like to do, now that the nights are drawing in? I'd love to hear about them, & they may be something I, or others, would like to try! πŸ˜€

Isn't this baby cardigan lovely?! Just look at the cute little gingerbread buttons!

The cardigan is hand knitted by my mum. She has lots of different colours & patterns, as well as beautiful bootees, which are stocked at The Tree Shop in Kirkwall. So if you have a new bundle of joy to buy for, pop in & have a look πŸ‘£πŸ˜€

I know I'm a couple of hours early, but I'm away early in the morning, so wanted to wish you all a happy 1st of August!

As you can see from my photos, I've had a busy July, with visitors & island hopping. I've been to Hoy twice, Stronsay, & tomorrow I'm off to Flotta!

Even though I've lived in Orkney for 40 years, I'm still finding new places to explore. If you have a favourite place or can think of somewhere I might not have been to yet, let me know. I'll start a list πŸ˜€

I have 2 weeks left of school holidays to go, & lots of sewing to fit in, in between adventures, so wish me luck!

I hope you all have a lovely August, & we get some more sunshine & a little less rain 🀞

What do you think of this handsome chap?

This is a commissioned piece I made earlier this year. I was given photos of the man, so I could copy his hair & clothing.

He has now been presented to the man's niece, to cuddle whilst he is away working in colder climes, & is a big hit!

Happy 1st of July! Where has the sunshine gone?! Hoping it comes back soon, especially as tomorrow is the last day of term, so I am on holiday πŸ₯³

Sorry for the lack of posts last month, I've been so busy with all your sewing, that I've not had a chance to post anything.

This month I'm planning to go island hopping, spend time with visiting family & some much needed time to relax, including getting some vitamin sea. What have you got planned?

This next week will be spent catching up with the backlog of sewing (thank you for your patience), then I'm taking a week off to be with my visitors. Next collection from the Tree Shop will be Saturday 18th July.

Have a great month, may it be filled with laughter & sunshine! 😎

Pinch punch first of the month! And so summer begins 😍 It is a lot warmer in Dounby now, & the β˜€οΈ is coming out often between the rain showers πŸ˜€

What are your plans this month? Today is a training day at my day job, then the children will be back in school again tomorrow. It will be nice to see them, after me being off last week.

I'm hoping to spend some time pottering in the garden & a trip or 3 to the beach. A paddle & some sand beneath my feet will be just what I need β˜€οΈ

May your month be full of sunshine & times spent with your favourite people!

A change from the usual posts this morning, but something that means a lot to me.

You may be aware that I lost my eldest son a year ago this month, but some may not know he died by su***de. He kept most of how he was feeling to himself, so we didn't know the full extent until it was too late.

Please check in regularly with your friends & loved ones. If you're struggling yourself, please ask for help. Tell someone. Help is out there. Life is better with you in it πŸ’š

With Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 approaching (w/c May 11th), this year’s theme is Action β€” focusing on the small, practical steps we can all take to support mental health at work.

To support this, we have a workplace poster built around three simple areas:

β€’ Action for yourself

β€’ Action for someone else

β€’ Action for all of us

It’s designed to be clear, practical, and easy to apply β€” helping teams notice early signs of stress, feel more confident starting conversations, and build a culture where people feel supported.

At the heart of it is a simple message we often come back to:

Notice early. Talk early. Act early.

Pinch punch 1st of the month! And what a beautiful sunny morning we have 😍

What are your plans for this month? I'm looking forward to an extra day off this weekend with the bank holiday, & later in the month I've got friends visiting from Norway. (Did you know I can speak Norwegian?!)

It is also the first anniversary of my son's passing, so I will be taking some time off from the 23rd.

Thank you all for your likes, comments & the sewing you have sent my way, as well as your patience during busy times.

Have a great month & may it be full of sunshine! β˜€οΈ
