For over 12 years, a Preston resident lived without any heating or hot water, setting up a tent and sleeping bag in his living room every winter to keep himself and his dog warm.

After receiving a leaflet through his door, he visited the town hall to apply and was fitted with first-time central heating* through Cosy Homes in Lancashire.

Seen or heard bad things about Air Source Heat Pumps?
We have too. But how much of it is true?🤔

At Cosy Homes, we want to sort fact from fiction, starting with these 4 heat pump myths.

❌They’re too noisy
âś…Heat pumps mostly run in winter for heating and overnight for hot water. The noise is background noise, similar to the humming of a household fridge

❌They only work on new builds
âś…They work no matter how old your home is. Just like a gas boiler, they'll heat any home when sized correctly based on the home's energy consumption

❌They don’t work in winter
✅Yes, they do. Heat pumps work even when the outside temperature is down to -15°C

❌My home needs insulating first
âś…If you can insulate first, great. If not, it still works! Insulating first means your home needs less energy to keep it warm. You can still get a heat pump regardless.

Why was Cosy Homes in Lancashire created? 🏠

In 2013/14, a Public Health survey revealed how living in a cold home impacts the health of local residents.

To fix this, Lancashire’s local authorities came together to launch Cosy Homes in Lancashire, a single scheme created to bring in funding, advice, and support to keep Lancashire homes warmer and energy efficient.
