Celebrating excellence across the mohair industry.

William Halstead was proud to support the 2026 Mohair Excellence Awards, recognising the dedication, expertise and craftsmanship of South Africa’s leading super kid mohair producers.

The awards celebrate the farmers whose commitment to quality helps maintain the reputation of one of the world’s most valued natural fibres, bringing together producers, industry partners and stakeholders from across the global textile community.

As a specialist weaver of luxury mohair and wool fabrics, William Halstead understands the importance of quality and collaboration throughout the textile industry.

Our relationship with Mohair South Africa reflects a shared appreciation for the skill and expertise that define exceptional textiles, from fibre production through to the finished cloth.

The ransom-note aesthetic was never just style — it was a rejection of authored hierarchy.

Jamie Reid’s typography removed coherence, replacing it with constructed message fragments — letters cut, displaced, reassembled.

Here, that language is rebuilt in weave form.

Not printed reference. Not graphic overlay. But structure itself carrying fragmented identity.

Punk visuals looked uncontrolled, but they were highly engineered.

Every element — torn edges, misaligned type, layered imagery — relied on precision in placement and intent.

Inspection is where cloth is tested against that same principle.

Structure is verified. Consistency is enforced. The cloth has to hold its own before any narrative is attached to it.

Rebellion without control collapses. So does cloth.

Classic design, quietly reworked.

Recognisable patterns are revisited with a softer approach to decoration, offering a refined interpretation that feels both assured and current.

In punk, disruption was built through production methods: photocopy distortion, collage, ransom-note lettering, misregistration, abrasive colour.

This cloth applies the same logic through construction.

A 450g twill woven from 100% RWS responsibly sourced wool is produced at full scale, with yarn dyed within The SIL Group at FTS Dyers Ltd — including a one-off dayglo pink that cuts through the structure with the same deliberate disruption seen in Jamie Reid’s visual language.

Disruption here is not referenced. It is built into the cloth itself.
