Right then... let's talk about another elephant in the room...

The name.
Because apparently not everyone has a business called Thimble & F***g. 😂

Back at the start of 2025, before the business even existed, I was sat in the office joking about how so many businesses seem to have names made up of random words.

You know the sort. Two completely unrelated things thrown together and somehow it's a brand.

So naturally I said if I ever started a business, I'd call it something completely ridiculous.

Cat asked "Like what?"

And I replied: errr.. I dunno! Thimble & F***g.

Then somehow... it became a real business. So what does it mean?

THIMBLE
A thimble is small, tough, useful and designed to stop you getting hurt by little pricks.
It quietly gets on with its job, doesn't ask for much attention and proves that good things often come in small packages. It also reminds me of my son, he's small, determined and capable of causing absolute chaos and joy in equal measure. It's quirky, a bit old-fashioned and makes people wonder why on earth anyone would name a business after one.

⚡ F***G
F***g is a Norse goddess associated with wisdom, family, home and knowing things before everyone else catches on. She's strong, independent and a little bit mysterious. However, I say frigging hell regularly. Some have informed me that it means completely different things where they grew up. The fact that one little word causes so many different reactions makes me love it even more.

And while we're at it...

Why all the Alice in Wonderland influences?

That's a lot less complicated.

I grew up in the 90s. Back when there were four TV channels, no streaming, and if you wanted to watch a film again, you either owned it or waited six months for it to come back on telly.

I only had a handful of videos, but my mum taped it off the TV and I watched it non stop so it's nostalgic.

The other day I overheard someone looking at my stall and say, "I don't get it."

And honestly?

You're not meant to.

Thimble & F***g was never designed to fit neatly into a box.

It's a little bit Alice in Wonderland, a little bit vintage treasure hunt, a little bit handmade, a little bit handpicked, and a whole lot of things that make me smile.

It's old mixed with new. Colour mixed with chaos. Quirky mixed with nostalgic. The kind of place where statement earrings sit next to forgotten treasures, where nothing quite matches but somehow everything belongs.

Not everyone will get it.

Not everyone has to.

Because the people who do get it? They usually stay a while, have a rummage, find something unexpected, and leave with something they absolutely didn't know they needed.

So if you've ever looked at Thimble & F***g and thought, "What even is this?"...

The answer is simple.

It's a little bit mad.

Just like Wonderland. ♠️♥️♣️♦️✨. "Curious? Come down the rabbit hole and see what treasures you find..." 🐇✨

Yesterday was a hot one! ☀️🥵

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to the Newport & Carisbrooke Summer Fayre and stopped by the Thimble & F***g stall. Whether you treated yourself, bought a gift, had a browse or simply stopped for a chat, we loved meeting every one of you. 💖

A special thank you to Cat & Bobs for helping on the stall and keeping me sane through the heat, the crowds and the endless rearranging of stock! You're a star. ✨

Today we're recovering from the sunshine, aching feet and market-day exhaustion while restocking Holliers Tunnel with lots of goodies. If you missed us yesterday, pop in and have a browse!

And in all the excitement of markets, stock, making handmade pretty things and surviving the heatwave... we completely forgot something rather important... 🎉

THIMBLE & F***G TURNED ONE! 🎂🥳

One whole year of markets, creating, sourcing, learning, laughing, meeting wonderful customers and building this colourful little business from an idea into something real.

The poster we shared says it perfectly – over the last year we've attended lots events, welcomed hundreds of customers, made countless sales, introduced handmade and handpicked treasures, and made so many lovely memories along the way.

Thank you for supporting a small business mumma and for sharing our posts, visiting our stalls, shopping with us and cheering us on. We genuinely couldn't do it without you.

Here's to Year Two being even bigger, brighter and bolder! 💚🩷✨
