PARTY DECOR DETAULS 🪡🛠️🪩 (read to the end for something very exciting!)
The party decor was all DIY, with a huge help from my creative facilitator - To save as much money as we could we tried to utilise as many materials that I already had in the archives of L.O.M as possible, and then crafted all of this!
For the last year I have been scouring facebook marketplace, charity shops, ebay and skips, collecting the perfect second hand pieces, like lampshade cages, victorian medicine bottles, old packs of cards, candelabras and teacups. We decorated everything by hand, the huge lampshades, made all these giant mushrooms, painted the flowers, created the epic backdrop, I made 12 tablecloths and 100 napkins (with the help of ) I even had tea stained pages from Alice in Wonderland all over the tables (but they only got added to the tables just before dinner, so not featured!) and keyring making kits (more on those later)
We turned some cage skirts I made years ago into mega mobiles and stitched together 50 meters of L.O.M fabric to decorate the roof of the marquee too!
Creating this space, and trying to do it entirely with second hand things or bits and bobs I already had was a challenge, but so much fun, and really reignited my passion for making and to push my creativity to beyond clothing.
Whilst I might have saved money because I’m in the privaledged position of having a studio full of all kinds of materials to help pull this together, it did not look budget because everything was still such high quality.
Initially I was planning on selling off a lot of the decor afterwards, but when we recognised that these pieces were really something special - especially altogether, I realised that they might be perfect for other people to hire for their events, weddings and parties, so for now they are all packed up in my guest room, and next year I will have a hire section on my website!
