A micro adventure is a journey you go on which is less than two hours from home, allows you to explore somewhere new and bring you joy. These three things are the core of my new career and it is about reconnecting people to nature. The other two things I feel passionately about are fuelling your body with food that has soul and building communities. [ 744 more words ]

When you put everything else first, and then wake up from a coma. Here’s the thing...no one notices if you put the rubbish out. You could have been the only person dusting your house for 18 years, literally, it must have cleaned itself. This week I picked the boys up from school, and took them to do the weekly shop. I don’t do this normally because it would be “boring” for them. [ 426 more words ]

Eastville park My mood is really effected by the weather. It has been a really difficult week, but I know that I could cope better if it had not poured with rain all week. I read a fantastic article on Wednesday about how a long study saw a very significant correlation between incidents of mental health decline and being not around nature. [ 332 more words ]

Why is adventure and outdoor activity a male dominated thing? This week I completed my first Triathlon. I was aiming to do one before I turned 30. That then became 40. With 18 months left to go, I signed up to a short distance off road event. It seemed like a good idea back in January. I thought it would make me ring fence time for exercise. [ 629 more words ]

Why are our kids being made to stay indoors, stay still and shut up? Nature reserve....please be quiet. Sometimes I genuinely wonder if I am cracking up? I like working with children. They are hilarious. They have really important stuff to say, and they don’t hold back. This week big son said “I don’t want to go to school.” Hmmmm. ‘Why?” I enquired. [ 213 more words ]

Two contrasting micro adventures Bristol botanical gardens Adventure #29 was to go to a place which I had thought a million times “I should go there.” And just never got round to it. I have lived in the city for 16 years and never stepped inside the botanical gardens. It was an absolutely glorious day. The sun was shining, the birds were singing and the trees were dancing. The world has a song and no one hears it Dave Jones The beauty of simple things I managed to squeeze in two micro adventures this weekend. #27 was a family walk round Warmley forest park. I have lived in this city for 16 years and I had no idea of its existence. It is not the most striking of beautiful places, but what amazed me was how much public space there was. [ 584 more words ]

This week I was asked at interview “what is your favourite sport.” Dear reader, here is a truth...I hate all “sports” because by their very nature they are acutely competitive and normally involve a ball. Walking, is not considered a sport. Neither is yoga, nor pondering life 20 m under the sea. I have always found water hugely soothing. I think it primeval a bit like the fire thing.
