Detail of the week: an abundance of satin stitched flowers around the pocket flap of our 1790s court dress coat reminds us that men's fashion was not always as restrained as it should become from this time onwards. In the late 18th Century, embroidery in menswear was beginning to become limited to waistcoats and formal occasions, such as the events this elaborate piece would have been worn to . Apologies for the radio silence. Preparation for a new job has kept me even more busy than normal. Today I published 15 more patterns on the “Patterns of Perfection” website/database (ladysmagazine.omeka.net). One of my favourites is this November 1772 set of two designs for sword knots or sashes. With thanks to my brilliant research assistant (also my daughter), Leah, and the Bavarian State Library for their continued support. Another 30 to come in the next update!

An Unpick and a Resew.
This was me getting confused between the massive front skirt panel and the massive back skirt panel. I'd accidentally instructed Rema to sew the first layer of furbelows onto the front skirt thinking it was the back.
Ahh well....
But this morning Rema has re-placed and is re-sewing the furbelows on. This time on the correct panel.

A.1993.170 Yellow Mantua Replica continues

We had a rather large costume order to complete by mid may so the replication of the crazily beautiful yellow mantua has had to be put on hold.
It is SUCH a delight to be back working on it 💛

We'll be working on it every Monday and Tuesday over the next couple of months so watch this space!
