It takes patience to create a blend for spinning. It all starts with fibre, carefully carded, combed and gilled, and then we get to start experimenting. For our new dyed Heritage Collection base, it was a lot of experimentation, not just to find the right fibres and quantities, but also get the correct behaviour and effect - it’s deliberately a very heathery blend rather than a flat grey, to build depth once dyed.
Here’s the final step before spinning, where the fibre has already passed through a dozen or so steps.
