Self Portraits! 🎨👧🏼

Who can you see in the mirror? What faces can you make? What can you draw?🎨👧🏼

Today we have been drawing self portraits! The children took it in turns to look in the mirror, in the mirror we pulled lots of silly faces and identified different parts of our faces. As we looked at ourselves in the mirror, we talked about what we could see, what colour our hair and eyes were, how we could draw ourselves and so much more. We also enjoyed exploring our communication skills, telling the ladies what we could see in the mirror and what shapes we were drawing, we even enjoyed singing head, shoulders, knees and toes! We started to look at our family photo books, alongside looking at ourselves in the mirror, the children identified different and similar features between themselves and their family members. They all enjoyed drawing themselves, trying to draw shapes like circles for our heads, drawing straight or curly hair and choosing the right colours for our own eyes and hair. The children particularly loved looking at their family photos and identifying the different family members that they can see! We also enjoyed working together to look at different expressions, saying when we think people feel sad, happy or angry. Drawing and mark making helped us to expand our physical skills especially our fine motor skills, as well as allowing us to focus on our communication and social skills, identifying when people are feeling different emotions and talking about our own features.

The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children to develop their communication skills, talking about our own features, whilst also developing their fine motor skills, drawing themselves and much more. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by providing the children with mirrors, pencils, paper, paper plates and family photos and allowing them to look at themselves and try to draw their own faces. The IMPACT of this was that the children were able to work on communication and language, talking about what they were drawing and what they could see, whilst also developing their fine motor skills.

All in all we have had lots of fun drawing self portraits and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

Whilst taking part in this activity the children were able to develop in many different ways such as:

🎨Physical development🎨

👧🏼Personal, social and emotional development👧🏼

🎨Communication and language🎨

👧🏼Understanding the world👧🏼

AT HOME 🏡 you could focus on mark making and looking at each other in the mirror, further allowing you to enhance this experience and develop your understanding further.

Well done Penguins 🐧

We also discussed the textures of the items we were using as our canvas’ and how they felt when painting it alongside when using their hands to pop the bubble wrap!

The INTENT of this activity was to allow the children to get creative and express themselves through their artwork. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this throughout by having different resources and paint for the children to use. The IMPACT of this activity was that the children were able to get creative, develop their colour knowledge and develop their hand and eye coordination.

Mark making in the sand ⏳✏️✨

Today in owls we have been exploring the sand and the different resources we hadinthesand. Seeing what patters, letters and numbers we could make.⏳✏️✨

The INTENT was for the children to learn new numbers, letters and to make words in the sand along with our names! To practice our fine motor skills, using our fingers to create small patterns in the sand.⏳✏️✨

The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by putting different resources out like acorns, rings, brushes and spoons. The children could then use their imagination to indent the sand with whatever popped into their head, whether they talked about wanting to write there names they wanted to count the acorns and write the numbers in the sand next to them. Child KG was saying that she was building a castle and using the paintbrushes to make flags inside it.⏳✏️✨

The IMPACT showed that the children could use their fine motor skills to create anything they could think of and, with the resources of their own fingers and talk to all their friends about what they were making.⏳✏️✨

The areas of learning during this activity are:

Personal Social And Emotional Development
Communication And language
Physical Development
Knowledge And Understanding Of The World

Well Done🦉

Painting in the garden 🎨🖌️🖼️

What will you paint today? 🖌️

Today in Penguin’s we have been busy getting creative in the garden, we used the plastic sheet to paint on allowing us to have a super big canvas for some large scale painting! The ladies got a range of colours and paintbrushes for us to use allowing us to express ourselves and get creative. This also led on from the children’s interest in painting and mark making too. The children were able to make a wide range of marks both big and small whilst also allowing their imagination to run wild too where child V told the ladies she had painted Bluey, whilst child P told us he had drawn “bus”. Throughout this was a great way for the children to get creative and use their imagination whilst doing so too.

The INENT of this activity was to allow the children to use their imagination, develop their creativity and get messy too. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this throughout by having the different paint and paintbrushes to use to get creative. The IMPACT of this activity was that the children were able to develop their imagination, creativity and an interest too.

All in all the children had a busy morning getting messy and creative, and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

Whilst taking part in this activity the children were able to develop in different ways such as:

It is also one of our pre school children’s birthday this weekend too (happy 4th birthday, have the best party and day celebrating with your family at the weekend) 🎂

What better way to mark it than with a big party 🎉
Balloons, bubbles, glow sticks, party hats, birthday cake and lots of music, dancing and party games with all of our friends.

We have all had so much fun celebrating together

On behalf of the entire MG team we would like to wish you all the very best summer holidays, and for those leaving us today to move onto school in September the very best of luck in your new adventures.

Keep shining..it’s been a pleasure to be part of your journey so far 🌟

( and don’t worry.. those of you who are with us until the end of August there are plenty more parties and celebrations to come 💛)

Whatever Next… 🧸📦🚀🥾

Let’s join teddy and go on an adventure to the moon!! 🌙

Today in Penguin’s we have been developing our Imagination and enhancing this using our current interest in the book “Whatever Next” the ladies got the book and read it to use where we listened and located different items in the book pointing them out. The ladies had a recycled box, a colander, some wellie boots and a bear and let us let our imagination run wild. Through the children were using the colander as a helmet and caring for the bear in our spaceship, playing peek a boo and having great fun together too. The children were able to get creative too with what they were doing and express themselves through their imagination too!

The INENT of this activity was to allow the children to use their imagination, develop their social skills and explore something new too. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this throughout by having the different items for the children to explore with and get creative with also. The IMPACT of this activity was that the children were able to develop their imagination, play ideas and an interest too.

Song and Story time with Ducklings🐥🎶📚

Everyday we join together as big group for song and story time twice a day, before morning and after afternoon snack. We come together with our friends and ladies and sing some of our favourite songs such as ‘wind the bobbin up’ and our newest addition ‘get up and dance’. This song helps us see which friends have come to nursery each day. We also read some of our favourite stories such as ‘Arlo the sleepy lion’ and ‘sometimes I feel sunny’.🐥🎶📚

INTENT🐥
Our aim is to encourage communication and language, build relationships, develop early literacy skills, and spark a lifelong love of books, music, and learning. Through songs, rhymes, and stories, we create opportunities for the children to explore new words, routines, emotions, and the world around them in a fun and meaningful way.🐥

IMPLEMENTATION🎶
The ladies make song and story time an engaging, interactive experience every day. We use repetition, actions, song discs and expressive storytelling to capture children's attention and encourage participation. Each song and story time are adapted to each child's stage of development, ensuring every child feels included, valued, and confident to join in.🎶

IMPACT📚
These daily experiences have a lasting impact. Children develop their listening and attention skills, begin to recognise familiar words and sounds, build their vocabulary, strengthen their memory, and grow in confidence to communicate. Song and story time also supports emotional wellbeing, creates opportunities for bonding with trusted adults, and lays strong foundations for future reading and learning.
Every story shared and every song sung is helping to build curious, confident learners one page and one rhyme at a time.📚
