We had our weekly visit from Strawberry Fields Nursery today as part of our Little Links activity. Today we decorated pots using craft bits for the children to take home. Our residents offered a friendly helping hand and taught them techniques for them to practice.
We look forward to seeing them again next week!

Some of our ladies enjoyed a lovely trip out to Chorley Market, and what a wonderful time they all had! 🛍️

There was plenty to see and browse, with everyone enjoying the opportunity to explore the market and treat themselves to some lovely new garments and beautiful jewellery. It was the perfect chance to enjoy a little retail therapy, have a chat, and spend some quality time together.

Of course, all that shopping was thirsty work, so we made a well-deserved stop for a warm drink and a delicious slice of cake. ☕🍰 It was the perfect way to relax and recharge before heading home.

A fantastic day out was had by all, filled with shopping, laughter, treats and lots of lovely memories. We’re so pleased everyone enjoyed their trip! 💕

Object Storytelling with Hannah.

What a wonderful Object Storytelling session we had today!

We used a selection of familiar objects and pictures from the past to see what memories they could bring back, and it really did open up some fantastic conversations.

Our residents shared stories about their parents, childhoods, family life and their younger years, giving us little glimpses into the lives they had lived before coming to Astley View. It was lovely to sit and listen to their memories, learn more about each other and, of course, have plenty of laughs along the way! 🥰

One of my favourite moments of the session was when one of our residents started reminiscing about his time playing football. ⚽️

I asked him what position he played and he told me he was a midfielder. Naturally, I then had to ask what his football nickname was…

He smiled from ear to ear and said:

“Rip.” 😂

So, of course, I couldn't resist saying, “Oh, so the coach would shout, ‘Come on, let em' Rip!’” 😂

We all had a good laugh, and it was such a lovely little moment.

That's what I love about reminiscence activities you never quite know where a simple object or question is going to take you.

Today wasn't just about remembering the past. It was about sharing stories, getting to know each other better, laughing together and celebrating the lives and experiences that make each of our residents who they are.

A truly lovely session. 💕

The session provided a lovely opportunity for residents to spend time together, chat with other residents and staff, and enjoy each other’s company. There was plenty of conversation, laughter and positive interaction throughout the afternoon. As it was a particularly warm day, residents were also provided with plenty of refreshments to help them stay cool and hydrated. It was a lovely, sociable afternoon enjoyed by all.

We spent the afternoon exploring painting in a completely different way, using anything BUT a paintbrush. Residents experimented with sponges, bobbins, sticks, pompoms and even their fingertips to create colourful pieces that encouraged hand dexterity, creativity, and a bit of outside‑the‑box thinking. The slower, tactile nature of the activity was especially valuable for our dementia residents, offering sensory stimulation, gentle motor exercise, and a calm space for self‑expression. It turned into a wonderfully mindful session with plenty of smiles and surprising results.

Yesterday, residents took part in a fun and engaging fairy cake baking activity. Residents were encouraged to get involved with each stage of the baking process, including measuring and mixing the ingredients, spooning the mixture into the cake cases and decorating the finished cakes.
The activity provided an opportunity for residents to reminisce about baking experiences from the past, share stories and enjoy conversations with others. There was lots of laughter and enjoyment throughout the session, with residents taking pride in seeing and tasting the cakes they had made.
The activity encouraged social interaction, reminiscence, sensory stimulation, fine motor skills and independence, while providing residents with a meaningful and enjoyable experience. ❤️
