THE TIMELESS APPEAL OF STRIPES 🦓: There are some patterns that never lose their appeal, and stripes are certainly one of them. Fresh, timeless and wonderfully versatile, they have a way of bringing balance and quiet character to a room, while sitting happily alongside florals, botanicals and checks.

Here are four simple ways to decorate with stripes:

1. Add texture with woven stripes: Woven stripes bring softness and subtle texture to upholstery, curtains, blinds and cushions. Their relaxed, understated look works beautifully in both traditional and contemporary homes. To see our full woven collection, click here: https://www.vanessaarbuthnott.co.uk/collections/woven/

2. Embrace the charm of printed stripes: Printed stripes (such as our Stockholm Stripe bed canopy) have a character all of their own, from bold and decorative to quiet and understated. Our hand block printed designs celebrate traditional craftsmanship, with the gentle variations left by the hand-carved blocks giving every length of fabric its own warmth and individuality.

3. Don't forget the walls: Striped wallpaper is a wonderfully simple way to add height and structure to a room (bedroom wallpaper: Spotty Stripe). Vertical stripes naturally draw the eye upwards, creating a calm backdrop that feels elegant without ever overpowering the space. 4. Bring stripes underfoot: Our striped rugs and runners are woven from 100% British wool by a family-run mill in Wales. Beautiful, hardwearing and full of character, they're designed to be enjoyed every day while adding warmth and texture throughout the home. Whether woven, printed or used on walls and floors, stripes remain one of the easiest patterns to decorate with—bringing a timeless sense of order while allowing other prints and colours to shine. ☀️ A FRESH NEW FEEL FOR SUMMER: As the light changes, our homes naturally begin to feel different too. Summer is a lovely time to make a few thoughtful updates, and it doesn't have to mean redecorating an entire room. Often, it's the smallest changes that make the biggest difference.

Here are three simple ways to bring a fresh new feel to your home this summer:

1. Choose colours inspired by the season:Soft greens, warm buttery yellows, gentle duck egg blues and delicate pinks all help to brighten a room while keeping it calm and welcoming. Nature-inspired prints bring these colours together beautifully.

2. Layer in natural textures:Our Linen and Linen Union fabrics have a softness that's just right for summer. Whether it's a Roman blind, a pair of curtains or a simple tablecloth, natural fabrics allow light to filter gently through a room, creating a relaxed, airy feel.

3. Refresh with made to measure:A new blind, beautifully made curtains or a handful of cushions can completely change the feel of a space. Our made to measure service makes it easy to choose your favourite fabric, style and finish, with every piece crafted especially for your home by our trusted makers here in the UK.

WHERE ART AND INTERIORS MEET: There is something wonderfully timeless about seeing art and interiors speak the same language 🌿

From 16–23 May, Tom Constantine will exhibit a collection of still life oil paintings by Rose Arbuthnott as part of Oxfordshire Artweeks. Rose’s work captures the quiet beauty of gathered flowers, fruit and everyday objects — paintings filled with softness, colour and a gentle sense of domestic life.

We have always felt her paintings sit beautifully alongside Vanessa's fabrics and furniture; both are inspired by the poetry of the everyday home — layered rooms, faded garden colours, natural forms and objects chosen slowly over time.

Placed beside linen upholstery, botanical prints and handcrafted furniture, Rose’s paintings feel completely at home: calm, characterful and quietly expressive.

🎨 If you are visiting Oxford during Artweeks, it is well worth a visit.
