We recently took on this horsebox floor restoration project at the workshop. When transporting horses, having a completely solid, dependable floor isn’t just important, it’s absolutely vital for safety.

Lets look at the stages of the build:
📸 Photo 1: The original, worn-out floor coming into the shop.
📸 Photo 2: The old, rotten wood completely stripped back to the metal framing so we could clear out the debris and inspect the structure.
📸 Photo 3: The finished result! A brand-new, robust replacement floor topped with heavy-duty, ribbed rubber matting for maximum grip and durability.

🚨 Horsebox Safety Reminder — 3 Signs Your Floor or Ramp Needs Checking 🚨

With so many horseboxes coming out for the season, we’re already seeing a rise in soft floors, rotten ramp boards, and weak springs. These issues can be dangerous if left too long.

Here are 3 quick signs your horsebox floor or ramp needs attention:

1️⃣ Soft or spongy patches underfoot
Even if the rubber matting looks fine, the timber or aluminium underneath can be rotten or corroded.
If it feels uneven, soft, or “gives” when you press it get it checked.

2️⃣ Ramp suddenly feels heavier than usual
This is a classic sign of:
• Weak or stretched springs
• Failing hinges
• Rot inside the ramp
A heavy ramp is a major safety risk for both horse and handler.

3️⃣ Water ingress or damp smells
Leaks lead to hidden rot.
If you can smell damp or see staining, the floor or ramp may already be compromised underneath.
