A beautiful group of twelve medals, that came in for updating, there are pictures of the before and after mounting for the miniature medals.

The miniature medals are now mounted correctly and should have never have been mounted as they were previously.

A nice group of two medals containing the Sea Gallantry Medal, still with the original box and awarded in January 1913

The Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal had the original wide ribbon which was incorrect for this medal and has been changed to the second type ribbon (1874-1954)

The Sea Gallantry Medal (SGM) (officially the “Medal for Saving Life at Sea”, and originally the “ Board of Trade” Medal for Saving Life at Sea), is a United Kingdom award for civil gallantry at sea.

The original medal had a diameter of 2.3 inches (58 mm) and was not intended for wear. In 1903 the size was reduced to 1.3 inches (33 mm) and a suspension bar added.

It is always nice to surprise a customer.

As all the medals did not have any ribbon the customer thought that the medals were WW1 Medals and was unaware that the group contained the Royal Naval Reserve Long Service Medal, the original ribbon was green and instituted in 1908

Set of medals and Blue Uniform belonging to an Officer in the Royal Navy, whom has been issued with the Wider Service Medal and two Bars at the same time.

The Ribbons are correctly placed in line with current RN BR’s for Officers.

The bars to the Wider Service Medal are correctly placed in line with current policy.

There is a change to the criteria for the Wider Service Medal:

Wider Service Medal

The Wider Service Medal (WSM) is a Tier 4 medal that was introduced in 2024. The WSM was designed to provide medallic recognition for Armed Forces personnel, MOD Civilians, contractors, and other public servants, who are engaged on operational activity that delivers a significant and direct contribution to UK objectives in rigorous circumstances, but not necessarily in roles that expose them to physical risk. To qualify for the medal, personnel must have accrued 180 days aggregated service on eligible operational activity (reckonable service may be aggregated across multiple deployments and/or operational activity). Subsequent periods of service of 180 days will result in the award of bars to the medal. A gold bar will be issued once an individual qualifies for a fourth bar; a maximum of four gold bars can be awarded. Rest and Recuperation is included as qualifying service towards the medal. Eligible operational activity must have been ongoing on 5 March 2024, with eligibility backdated to no earlier than 11 December 2018. Service eligible for the WSM will not count towards the Accumulated Campaign Service Medal as the WSM is itself a reflection of aggregated service. The detailed eligibility criteria for the WSM were published in 2025DIN09-016.5

The South Atlantic Medal is a British campaign medal awarded for service during the 1982 Falklands War, recognising over 30,000 military personnel and civilians. It covers service between 2 April and 12 July 1982 (later extended to 21 October 1982 for non-rosette awards), requiring at least one day in the zone, a rosette for shorter service, or 30 days continuous service

Well done to all those that spotted the Aprils fool post yesterday (or was it 😂).

I apologise to all those that I did not reply to in the messages as I did not want to ruin the wee joke, I hope you now understand why.

No AI was harmed during the process, here are the pics to prove it, I also had a little help from one of my friends on cleaning up the picture.

It took several attempts to place the ribbon and I had been sitting on the pictures for about eight months.

I hope you enjoyed the post.
