The doors to our Windsor branch opened on the 29th November 2004, then just over 12 years later we moved to our new shop in Cookham. The owner Philip Dunne has over 25 years of experience in the clothing industry. He started working in Suit Hire and Alterations, then went on to work for of Europe’s top Wedding man

ufacturers, a few years later he decided to open his first shop in Windsor! Cookham Formal Hire have established themselves as one of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Surrey’s premier Suit Hire companies. We stock Europe’s top Formal Wear designers of Suits and Waistcoats and are one of a handful of shops that stock both Morning Suits and Lounge Suits to hire in both classic and slim fittings. Over the past 10 years we have been very lucky to be involved with some amazing projects. In 2008 we were privileged to be sole supplier of Formal Suits to the wedding of Princess Anne’s son Peter Phillips, and Autumn Kelly. Also in the same year, Windsor supplied all the suits for the James Bond film Quantum of Solace, over 350 Dinner Suits! We also supplied suits for the Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton and regularly help our clients with functions at Windsor Castle, Buckingham Palace and Mansion House in London. Legend has it that on their wedding day, Queen Victoria presented Prince Albert with a small bouquet of her favorite flowers. In a classic romantic gesture, he took a penknife, cut a slit directly into his jacket lapel, and slipped the flowers inside.

There is nothing quite like the crisp, undeniably sharp look of a perfectly adjusted dickie bow to elevate a formal suit. ✨🤵

While we often see them paired with traditional black tie, a dickie bow is a fantastic way to bring individual personality, color, and texture to any formal suit look. But have you ever wondered where the iconic phrase actually comes from?

The necktie style itself evolved from 17th-century Croatian mercenaries who used scarves around their necks to hold their shirts together. The French upper classes quickly adopted it, turning it into the "cravat," which eventually shrunk and shifted into the standard bowtie we know today by the late 19th century.

As for the phrase "dickie bow"? That's a classic piece of British slang. In the 19th century, a "dickie" was a detached shirt front or collar used to save on laundry. Over time, the bowtie worn alongside these formal dress shirts became fondly known as the dickie bow!

Trends may come and go, but adding a bow to a beautifully tailored suit remains an absolute masterclass in sartorial style.
