Yesterday we went to Daisy Lane Role Play Village for their role play session. Despite the continued hot weather, inside the hall was cool enough to enjoy playing. The salon was popular this week with the children straightening the dolls hair and trying to brush mine too.

I’ve just had a query that I’ve not had before. It was regarding how I keep children safe when we are out walking. I have a double buggy but I encourage children to walk from an early age and build stamina. This makes it easier when children leave and new, younger children join who need the buggy.

In busy areas, the children know that they must hold my hand or the buggy and that they will be allowed to let go when it is safe. We spend a lot of time in country parks or woodland so that the children are away from traffic and able to walk/run safely.

And lastly, if they run I can chase them. 🤣 I got a new personal best for 5km at parkrun yesterday so I can outrun the toddlers easily. 💪🤣

The past two mornings have been spent at East Carlton. The duck pond and stream are sheltered by trees so much cooler than my garden. You can see from the second photo how engaged the children were with their play. We’d taken bowls, a ladle, metal teapot/jug and some other cups. All four children scooped and poured the water, making cups of tea or hot chocolate. ☀️☀️☀️☀️

The highlight of today was watching a squirrel enjoying a milkshake in the woods. Every time someone approached it ran to hide in the long grass waiting for a safe time to return. The children thought this was hilarious, R said, “I’m jealous, I like strawberry milkshake”. We stood for ages, quietly watching it.

The children commented how naughty it is to drop litter, they are always keen to put theirs in the correct bin. Sometimes too keen, not letting me finish my coffee because they want to throw away the cup. 🤣 We also chatted about what squirrels would usually eat.

There are many toys sold online that don’t meet the UK’s rigorous safety tests, it’s always best to buy from reputable manufacturers or small businesses that have their toys CE tested to meet European standards.
