Assessments alone are not enough while every tide carries more pellets down the Tyne and into the North Sea.
This needs a visible, urgent and properly resourced clean-up, with clear public information explaining:
• How many nurdles were released?
• How far have they spread?
• Where are specialist teams currently working?
• How many pellets have been recovered?
• Who is responsible for funding the full clean-up?
• What is being done before the next tides carry them farther along our coastline?
This is not about blaming the wrong organisation before the investigation is complete. It is about expecting those responsible for the incident and the agencies leading the response to act quickly, communicate openly and protect our river, coastline and wildlife.
Local people should not be left photographing plastic pollution as it spreads while wondering whether anybody is coming to remove it.
We need answers. More importantly, we need action.
