A true icon of British industrial design.

Invented in 1932 by automotive engineer George Carwardine, the revolutionary Anglepoise used a constant-tension spring mechanism inspired by vehicle suspension, allowing the lamp to move effortlessly and remain perfectly balanced in almost any position.

Its ingenious engineering transformed industrial lighting and became one of the defining designs of the 20th century.

This original Herbert Terry Anglepoise Model 90, produced around 1970, carried that legacy into a new era with its clean, modern profile while retaining the precision and functionality that made the Anglepoise name famous.

Some flowers deserve a little support.

If you've ever watched a tulip flop, hydrangea bow or daffodil collapse, a pedestal flower bowl is the answer.

The central well gathers stems together, encouraging even the most unruly blooms into a sculptural arrangement.

1950s Space Age Pedestal Bowl
Model 2162 by Colin Melbourne for Beswick, England

With its floating-saucer form, ribbed pedestal base and soft celadon interior, this sculptural bowl perfectly captures the optimism and elegance of post-war British design.

More than a functional object, it's a striking centrepiece that feels as contemporary today as it did over sixty years ago.

Designer Colin Melbourne (1928–2008) joined Beswick in the 1950s after studying at the Royal College of Art.

He brought a fresh, modernist approach to the pottery, creating a series of bold, architectural forms inspired by the Space Age and the clean lines of contemporary Scandinavian design.

His work marked a departure from Beswick's traditional output and is now increasingly appreciated by collectors of mid-century ceramics.

1950s Italian Cream Alabaster Live Edge Ashtray

Alabaster forms as mineral-rich waters slowly evaporate, leaving deposits that are compressed over immense periods of time into the beautifully veined stone prized by sculptors for centuries.

Italy, particularly the Tuscan town of Volterra, has been renowned for carving alabaster since Etruscan times over 2,500 years ago.

By the 1950s, Italian artisans were embracing its natural beauty, creating organic, free-form objects like this that perfectly captured the era's love of sculptural simplicity.

Summer whites: effortlessly elegant

Some pieces don't demand attention - they quietly earn it.

Designed by Ernst Fenzzl for Bareuther Waldsassen, this Silvana bark vase is a beautiful example of post-war West German porcelain at its most sculptural.

The richly textured, bark-like surface reflects the era's fascination with organic forms, while the elegant silhouette keeps it feeling fresh more than fifty years later.

Founded in Bavaria in 1866, Bareuther became renowned in the post-war years for combining exceptional porcelain craftsmanship with the clean, nature-inspired aesthetic that defined mid-century European design.

The Silvana range remains one of the factory's most distinctive collections.

Weekend state of mind.

Sunlight on white walls. A hint of salt in the air. Sails drifting across a still horizon.

Bernard Buffet had a remarkable ability to distil a landscape into atmosphere and this vintage print of Fishing Boats captures exactly that.

Sparse, graphic and unmistakably his, it evokes the quiet optimism of summer by the sea.

One of the most celebrated French artists of the post-war era, Buffet (1928-1999) became renowned for his bold black lines, elongated forms and unmistakably graphic style, making his work instantly recognisable around the world.

A little pause after an incredible few weeks at Pinch.

Thank you to everyone who came to visit us at Maple Farm, chatted design, bought pieces to love and made it such a special pop-up. We had had such a lovely time, we'll definitely be back.

After a rest and a restock, we're back with some beautiful new pieces ...

This sculptural white vase by Pino Spagnolo for Sicart, Italy, is a perfect example of 1970s Italian minimalism.

Architectural, timeless and effortlessly elegant.

Pino Spagnolo (b. 1948) is an Italian architect and industrial designer whose work is celebrated for its clean lines, balanced proportions and timeless simplicity.

After studying architecture in Turin, he established his own design studio and went on to create products for some of Italy's leading manufacturers, earning an international reputation for functional, elegant design.

During the 1970s, Spagnolo collaborated with Sicart, producing a collection of sculptural ceramic vases that embodied the minimalist spirit of Italian modernism. Defined by pure geometric forms and glossy monochrome glazes, his ceramics remain highly regarded today, prized by collectors for their understated sophistication and enduring contemporary appeal.
