My local Facebook group are full of comments about empty shops and it being the fault of high rent and rates. And yes those things are a significant cost, but it’s easy to blame rent and rates because they are the responsibility of someone else.

If you want your town centre to thrive, and you don’t want empty shops, then you need to use the shops that are there. Don’t just visit the town when there’s an event on and then only buy things from the stalls and outside vendors. That doesn’t help you local shops and cafes. You need to use us every week. Every time you need something you need to think if you can get it in town first.

If you don’t want empty shops, please use the ones you have!
