Two months of Unheard Voices UK.

This page started faceless for a reason.

We wanted the work to arrive first.

Not the follower count. Not the connections. Not the assumptions people make before they have even listened.

Over the last two months, poets and spoken word artists have submitted work, sent feedback, shared posts, recommended rooms and told us what they are trying to build next.

A clear pattern is forming.

A lot of poets are not short on talent.

They are short on routes.

Routes into rooms. Routes into feedback. Routes into paid work. Routes into funding. Routes into being seen by people who can actually help move the work forward.

That is where Unheard Voices UK is heading.

Visibility is not just about getting on the biggest stage.

It is about becoming easier to find, easier to remember and easier to book.

Open mics, poetry nights, library rooms, writing groups and community spaces are where poets build consistency. A room can become a clip. A clip can become a contact. A contact can become the next route.

This month’s roundup includes routes across the Midlands, South, London/South East, North, East, West and Wales, with community-submitted spaces added to the map.

This page started with a question:

How do poets build something sustainable from their creativity?

Not just one poem. Not just one performance. Not just one opportunity.

But a practice. A route. A body of work. A career. A community.

Unheard Voices UK was created because we wanted to understand the routes available to poets and spoken word artists, and where those routes still feel hard to see.

Research has found that fewer than 1 in 10 UK arts workers come from working-class backgrounds, with arts and culture work still heavily concentrated around London and the South East.

That matters.

Because talent is everywhere. Access is not.

We have noticed how many visible routes still lean towards younger artists, London-centred spaces, institutions, or people already close to well-resourced networks. That does not make those routes invalid. It simply means more pathways need to be visible too.

This platform is one attempt to do that.

To spotlight poets. To share spaces. To signpost practical routes. To learn how artists are building sustainability from their work.

There’s a saying: be the change you want to see.

And sometimes, when the route does not exist clearly enough, you start creating it.

We did not know where this page would lead. We’re grateful we took the chance.

The response so far has been overwhelming in the best way. Every message, submission, correction and piece of feedback has helped shape what this platform is becoming.

We are listening. We are learning. We will continue to move with care.

Long after the headlines move on, certain conversations keep echoing through everyday life.

A sustainable poetry practice often grows when poets can turn one opportunity into the next: a performance into evidence, a workshop into a clear offer, a commission into a partnership, a funded project into something that can travel beyond the room.
