Many years ago I saw an ad for a rustic cupboard. I was upcycling a lot of furniture, mostly commissions, but loved a proper old, handmade piece of utility furniture that had had an obvious life.

This piece came from Tarland, a good hour outside Aberdeen where I lived at the time, off I went. I got the cupboard and then had to dash back to do the school pick up for my eldest child. I was late. He was singularly unimpressed.

Anyhoo, it's time for an overhaul has arrived. It's only taken 20 years, give or take.

The interior colour of the table was chosen to complement an upholstered piece of furniture in the room.
Yellow is a notoriously difficult colour to use because the pigment often isn't saturated, so it takes lots of layers to get depth of colour. Five coats in this case, made much easier because the table split in two.

Absolutely no progress on my previously dismantled chair. The garden and allotment are, however, looking lovely.

I've had a friend's table to refinish. It's taken a wee while to get the colours right but the end is in sight!

I have found another project!

She's in quite a poor state of repair and initially I thought she was 'reproduction' when I stripped the hessian and webbing off (lack of tack holes). On closer inspection she's been rebuilt, not very well, but her bones are sound & solid mahogany I think.
