Ann's Orchard Needlework

Ann's Orchard Needlework Inspiration for needlework, knitting and crochet. Beautiful needlework kits inspired by the Victorian art of embroidery using the finest Japanese seed beads.

Simple mini kits are a perfect introduction and make lovely gifts. Larger kits, inspired by nature, are sewn on linen for a stunning, contemporary finish.

Peas are growing in the garden vegetable patch as well as on my needlepoint canvas this morning. I love the lime green for the peas, it is exactly the same shade as the French garden peas that can be bought in glass jars from the supermarché. I may get the flowers in this evening, but first I have some gardening on the agenda, although it is difficult to leave this design in progress because I cannot wait to see how it develops.

The organisers have kindly offered me a pair of tickets to give away for Friday 12th June. If you would like a chance to win please drop me a line by this Friday 22nd May and I will draw a winner at random over the weekend. The winner will be announced in a post on this feed and the name will be written in my handwriting. Best of luck, it really is a great venue packed with lots of independent textile companies and the cafe does great tea and cake.

Is it very terrible that it is almost midday and I’m still in my pyjamas? The problem is I’ll have my breakfast and then think, “I’ll just do a few minutes stitching,” and the next thing you know is it’s almost time for lunch.

I love May, the garden always seems to be at its best and there is so much promise in the new leaves, buds and seeds sprouting in the greenhouse. The herbaceous borders are inspiring my new designs. This is a completely new format for me, 18 count canvas, which seems to be ideal for needlepoint using the full six strands of embroidery thread. I can use my favourite colour palettes and there is a beautiful sheen to the finished work.

The plan is to make these designs available as printed canvases so you can work them in your own favourite threads, although there will be a guide for anyone who would like to use my selection. Fingers crossed they will be ready this autumn.

Anyway, I’ve had my stitching fix this morning, now for some paperwork :(

When you buy anything from my Etsy or online shop I usually pop a cross stitch postcard in the parcel. These change periodically and you may have noticed some new flowers arriving through your letterbox. These were designed for the held at the Goodwood Hotel a few weeks ago. When stitched in either thread, or in this case seed beads, on a 10 count canvas, they fit beautifully in a wooden aperture box from I have simply painted the box using a tester pot of emulsion to match the thread colour and finished with some beeswax.

Super happy post ✉️ this morning. I have treated myself to the Rolls Royce of needlework frames from Needle Needs. It is so beautiful and my new Anne Boleyn kit designed by from slotted straight in and tightened to the perfect tension. I do have about 20 other projects in hand but always a delight to have something waiting in the wings.
