🧵 Sewing Tip: Always Check Your Seam Allowance! 📏

Before you start sewing your project, take a moment to double-check the seam allowance listed in your pattern—they’re not always the same!

Some patterns use 1 cm, others 1.5cm, and some may even vary within the same project. Sewing with the wrong seam allowance can lead to pieces not fitting together properly—or a finished garment that's too tight or too loose. 😬

✅ Always check the instructions
✅ Mark your guidelines if needed
✅ Use the markings on your machine plate to stay accurate

Sunday 7th September -10.30am-1pm

Have you ever wondered, how do I make a lampshade? Well, unleash your creative skills by making your own handmade 30 cm round drum lampshade as Karen from guides you through the process step by step during this relaxed crafting session.

This inspiring, unique workshop will help you to unlock your creativity, meet like-minded people, and learn new skills. No experience is necessary, and as there is no sewing involved, you do not need to know how to sew!

We have a selection of fabrics for you to choose from on the day, including popular Morris & Co. floral designs as well as bold and abstract prints.

When is the workshop – and for how long?
We begin the 2.5-hour workshop on Sunday, 7th September, at 10.30am, and we will be finished by 1pm.

What is included?
The cost includes all tuition, fabric, materials, and items needed to make your own stunning lampshade.
If you wish to bring your own fabric, please get in contact with us before the workshop is held so we can discuss this with the tutor, as some fabrics are better suited than others.

What will I learn?
How to make a beautiful lampshade by hand, using the materials and tools provided within the workshop.

🧵 Tuesday Sewing Tip: No Overlocker? No Problem! ✂️

If you don’t have an overlocker (or your sewing machine doesn’t do zigzag stitching), don’t worry — you can still finish your raw edges neatly and prevent fraying using pinking shears or a pinking rotary blade.

✂️ These tools create a zigzag cut that helps minimise fraying on woven fabrics — perfect for lightweight projects or quick makes.

✨ Top tips:
Best used on tightly woven fabrics
Works great for seams that won’t get heavy wear
Press your seams after pinking for a clean, tidy finish
