WHEN A NATION WAS WOVEN INTO TEXTILE

In 1905, Abanindranath Tagore painted Bharat Mata during the Swadeshi movement.

Among the symbols she carries is cloth — simple, understated, yet deeply significant.

At a time when choosing Indian-made textiles became an act of self-reliance, cloth was more than something to wear. It represented the skill of Indian hands, the dignity of work and the strength of indigenous craft.

More than a century later, that thread continues.

At I SÉ INDIA, we believe handloom is not simply textile.

It is a living connection between the weaver, the loom, the land and the person who wears it.

Never thought we would see our little handloom journey through these eyes. ❤️

We’ve watched her on screen, admired her work, and today, she chose to notice and share what we are trying to do for Indian handloom and the artisans behind it.

For a small initiative like ours, moments like this mean more than numbers or reach.

It feels like a reminder that the stories of our weavers deserve to travel far beyond the loom.

Before buying a handloom saree, I hope we all take a moment to think about the hands behind it.

A saree may look like just a piece of clothing when we see it hanging in a shop. But somewhere, a weaver has spent countless hours creating it — choosing the threads, setting the loom, weaving each motif, and patiently bringing an idea to life.

For many weavers, this is not just a craft. This is their livelihood. This is the skill they inherited from their parents and the tradition they hope their children will continue.

But today, many of these beautiful crafts are struggling. Young people from weaving families are moving away from this profession because they do not see a sustainable future in it.

As customers, we have the power to make a difference — not through big gestures, but through the choices we make.

The next time you buy a saree, look beyond the colour and the price. Ask where it came from. Ask who made it. Ask if the person behind the weave was valued for their skill.

Because when you choose genuine handloom, you are not just buying a saree.
