Christmas Shopping evening Thursday 4 December 5.30 - 7.30 pm

Come and join us for a glass of fizz and enjoy special reductions across the store. For one night only, open to all.

For those of you who are new to our store - we work exclusively with Scottish suppliers with products made by small independent artisans as well as the larger wool mills. We specialise in natural fibres, mainly wool and cashmere.

Over the coming days we will be posting about some of the gorgeous products you can find in store so keep an eye out for our feed!

Huge thanks to everyone who so kindly sponsored me for the the Maggie’s fundraising walk yesterday. I’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of folk which really spurred me on and I’m delighted to say I managed to walk the 17 miles, though I’d only expected to walk 7. A truly rewarding milestone both physically and mentally after a year of cancer treatment. Thank you all 🥳

What a treat it was to have the talented at the Scottish Textiles Showcase with us last night, talking about her work as a designer weaver with one of her beautiful looms to demonstrate the weaving process.

With a well deserved reputation for her high quality craftsmanship, Araminta is a member of the Walpole Group which represents the UK's finest luxury brands.

Her intricately designed pure alpaca throws and cushions are woven in undyed natural alpaca fibres in grey, caramel and white. Inspired by the Scottish landscape, these exquisite pieces are sustainably made and sourced from alpaca living in England and Scotland.

Her limited edition Beech Dappled Skies collection of lambswool heritage scarves and blankets come in soft hues of blue and green and make the perfect gift for that special loved one who can be so hard to buy for!

Tomorrow evening marks the Scottish Thistle Awards ceremony in Edinburgh and I’m delighted to say that the Scottish Textiles Showcase has been shortlisted for the Working Together for Tourism award! This is in recognition of our collaborative work with Scottish artisans, wool mills and the local community of artisan shops on St Mary’s Street.
This is an exciting moment for our small hard working team of staff and we look forward to attending the dinner and meeting the other finalists!

Paying our respects to HM the late Queen Elizabeth as her coffin procession passes up the Royal Mile yesterday past St Mary’s Street.
Her coffin now lies in St Giles cathedral until today.

Cycled home yesterday evening past thousands of people queuing to see her coffin all the way back down George IV Bridge, past Chambers St and around and around the meadows….! What a legacy she has left behind her.

Today marks the Summer Solstice and we celebrate the longest day when the sun is at its highest point over the Tropic of Cancer. Here in Edinburgh the sun rose at 4.26 am today and will set at 10.03 tonight.
Scotland is at its best during this time of year, when we can enjoy long summer days and beautiful landscapes are bathed in glorious morning and evening light.
Big thanks to our model Flora who clings onto the Maree throw in Arctic blue and wears the Elizabeth Martin Fiona coat in a gorgeous blue and black Harris Tweed. All products available at the Scottish Textiles Showcase Edinburgh shop and online.

Our visit to the Harris Tweed Authority in Stornoway was the icing on the cake! Huge thanks to Kristina Macleod for setting this up and especially Lorna Macaulay for her fascinating talk on Harris Tweed, the group are all now Harris Tweed experts and will be on the look out for any counterfeit Harris Tweed! After visiting independent weavers with single width Hattersley looms the group were thrilled to see the Griffith double width and talk to Harris Tweed weaver Davie Macleod about the loom. Thank you all for a most enjoyable visit.

Yesterday we visited three independent Harris Tweed weavers Rebecca Hutton at Northton, Joanne at by Tarbert and Iain Martin at Loch Seaforth who had also boiled up lichen to dye wool.
Thank you all for welcoming us into your loom sheds and sharing your Harris Tweed weaving stories with the group. We had a fascinating insight into the background history of the Harris Tweed story from .
It was great to hear the clickety clack of Hattersley looms in action again and see beautiful cloth in the making. What a treat!
