Sing into my mouth

Sing into my mouth A collaboration of fashion, photography, painting and print at Hill Street Design House. Part of the Edinburgh International Fashion Festival.

Originally spawned from an idea between photographers, Laura Meek and Nuala Swan-the initial concept for the exhibition was to explore fashion and portraiture through a figurative, abstract and colour study approach; focusing on how something could be translated in a stronger way through these means rather than focusing primarily on portraiture. In the planning for the photoshoots, scouting models

and locations, both photographers realised that they had hand picked very talented and unique artists in their own right to work with. This led to naturally incorporating these models and artists in the heartbeat of the collaboration. All five artists, including Laura and Nuala have come together in a collaborative venture to explore each others’ styles and strengths and to bring those elements in all of the work. The work will still follow the original concept of forging a figurative and abstract approach in the celebration of fashion and portraiture. The collection will have a variety of stand alone series as well as multiple artist/mixed media pieces, bringing together fashion illustration, photography, painting and design. There will also be a few installation pieces incorporating fashion and illustration design. The name of the show, Sing Into My Mouth, is derived from a Talking Heads song. The name seeks to illustrate how the voice of one artist can be amplified by the talent and point of view of others. And in this case, fashion, design and portraiture.
