❓It rose to royal prominence in the 14th century with a very famous Scottish king.
❓The clan motto is 'Fuimus' which is Latin for "We have been".
❓The clan crest is a lion statant with its tail extended.

"from the first day Jacqueline and I called up to the Dalkieth premises and we met you we knew straight away we’d be in good hands. You listened to our ideas of what our wedding would be like and also offered us so much advice and guidance in our choices, you took a vested interest in us as a couple and on our dreams for the wedding. After we stumbled across the kilt and outfit we loved which just happened to be on display, we knew it was fate it was to be the Hebridean Ice tartan specific to 8 yards that we wanted.

In total we had 7 hire outfits and I purchased mine to keep. Obviously the logistics of me organising all those fittings was daunting however you took control of it all between the Dalkieth and Musselburgh outlets everyone got measured and the countdown was on. You kept in constant contact with me with plenty of updates which gave me peace of mind to concentrate on the million and one other things Jacqueline had me doing.

The day of collection was so quick everything was there and ready for me and that personal touch of a hug and wishing me good luck for the day goes above all expectations, all the outfits fitted perfectly and we all looked great. We had so many compliments on the day not only from our guests but complete strangers staying at the hotel. Returning the hire outfits you afforded me a few extra days which we thought was so good of you and again just showed how much we meant.

I felt the whole experience with yourself and 8 yards was more than great customer service, it felt like family. Again we would just like to say a great big thank you to you and all the team for helping to make our day more than we dreamt it would be."

How to tell if your kilt fits:

✅It should sit comfortably around the waist, rather than around the hips like trousers.
✅Front panel should meet the back pleats. If the kilt is too tight there may be a gap between the front panel and the pleats.
✅If you are wearing a vest, your kilt should meet the bottom of the waistcoat. You shouldn't have any shirt poking out above the kilt.
✅The kilt should sit comfortably around the middle of the strap. If the kilt is too big or too small, you may have to pull it on or let it out to the furthest or nearest hole.
✅You can check if your kilt is the right length if it sits in the middle of the knee when you are stood upright. You should be able to see a sliver of skin above the sock.

If your kilt doesn't fit quite right, have no fear! At 8 Yards we can do many alterations to the fit of your kilt. Just bring it in to your closest branch and have one of our experts look over it.
