🧵 Monthly Sewing Social at the Studio 🧵

One of our big aims is to make the studio a truly communal space — somewhere for anyone who doesn’t have the space to sew at home, or simply enjoys sewing alongside others.

We’re now committing to keeping the studio for communal sewing on the first Saturday of every month.

These sessions are all about bringing people together to sew in a relaxed, social environment. You can work on whatever you like, whether that’s machine sewing, hand sewing, cutting.

There are 4 tables available, with one table per person, giving you plenty of space to work on your projects.

This Saturday’s session:

Hello! Anne Morgan and I are at shop.withnoname until Sunday evening. We are having a grand opening drinks evening tonight from 7pm! The we will be open here 9.30-6 Saturday & Sunday. Come and check us out and find some one off upcycled finds!

Leith walk shop will be closed today and tomorrow then I will be back on Sunday morning

This month we have a new course option. We are offering a 4 week project guided sessions. This is for anyone looking to take on a sewing or pattern cutting project within a class setting. A great follow on from the beginners or can be a more advanced project than this.

We also have a couple of spaces on our classic 6 week absolute beginners courses starting Thursday evenings from the 13th. Covers basics, alterations, zips and a 4 week project of your choosing!

Hello! On the 7-9th of August, we will be taking over the .withnoname along with .morgan_designs! We are currently making a lot of new items to fill the space with all handmade in the studio using a mixture of circular & vintage materials!

On the Friday we will be having an opening evening, with drinks, dj mix and textile talks! It would be lovely to see a lot of people there! There is a loose theme of 'I made this!'. Encouraging you to come along in an item made by you! But no pressure if not!

Most of of beginner long courses and the first date for our improvers course have sold out. Second date for improvers now available and the there is a couple of spaces on our beginmer shorts course

Shorts beginners - Lean to cut out fabric and make a pair of shorts. Pattern will be made to your measurments. Threads and elastocs included optionally bring fabric or buy fabric from the studio

This course is designed to take you through textile technquies on the knitting machine to learn and find your creativity! This will run for 5 weeks and then a full weekend make an item designed by you using the techniques you have learned.

Week 1- Pattern work - 4 hours

Stipes + plating

Setting up a pattern

Repeat or Motif

Making your own

Week 2 - Surface manipulation - Tucking and partial knitting

Tucking by hand and ripples

Tucking patterns

Cables

and moving cables for armholes or edges

Week 3 - Lace 

Ladders

Lace carriage 

Long stitches 

Designing a pattern

Week 4- Getting to know the ribber

Types of ribbing - different cast on and why

Transferring to the main bed

Shaping with ribbing

Knitting in circular - large scale for blankets or closed scarfs

Week 5

Drafting an item and any additional samples that you need to do

Linking

Week 6

Weekend Saturday and Sunday - Making final item - use the techniques learned to incorperate into an item e.g a vest some techniques take longer than others and you will get an idea of what is achievable in the weeks building up to this.

Beginner long course - 6 sessions covering basics, alterations, zips, and a 4 week project of your choice

Beginner summer shorts course - Friday evening and whole day Saturday course to learn the basics and make a pair of shorts for yourself.

Imrpovers - new seams and hems and introduction to pattern cutting - 7 week course.

Hello! After getting some requests I am running a couple of age 11-16 sewing courses in the summer

This is a course to make a patchwork drawstring bag. They will learn about upcycling, sewing and making an item. This will last 3 sessions in 1 week from 2-4.30pm

Finally starting to settle into the new studio and get through all of my boxes! We are already running classes and seeing new faces in the studio. We have a few courses with availability coming up in the studio to check out!

6 Week beginner sewing - All rounder course - Starts Friday, 12th of June
3 Week beginner sewing - Make a pair of summer shorts with a pocket.
Monthly Mending - 27th June 3-6pm
Introduction to machine knitting - Make a neckerchief/ Headscarf.
