LoullyMakes Handmade in Scotland Genuinely exclusive luxury textile accessories,thoughtfully designed & lovingly handmade in Scotland

Welcome to LoullyMakes
- an online emporium of meaningful accessories, lovingly handmade in Scotland. Let me say "Hello!" and introduce myself - I am Louise Nicolson ( aka Loully, to friends ! )
Originally taught to sew at home by my Mum, pattern, print and texture have remained the enduring focus of my creativity, and since graduating from the Scottish College of Textiles, I have relished a spec

trum of retail experience from youthful days with Liberty of London, to the ongoing successes of our family-run Highlandwear business, Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers. Inspired with such glorious traditional fabrics at my fingertips, LoullyMakes was borne from a combined need to utilise our kiltmaking remnants, reduce waste and to let creative ideas become reality. Here I offer a focused range of beautiful, useful pieces that I love to wear myself and to have around me, day-to day. Each simply constructed design is the result of my own insight and development. Each item is carefully handmade by our small, skilled team, here in Scotland. Select individual pieces are available from our family business, Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers, from The Dunbar Craft Studio , and on occasion you can also find me selling from Artisan Fairs or a "Pop-Up Shop".

Flodden Day 2026, with family, friends and a community of thousands who gather on the Border between Scotland and England to commemorate a tumultuous battle fought over 5 centuries ago.

But while this day is marked with respect, it is not a day of sorrow nor division. For most of us this day is about coming together, tradition and spectacle, of sentiments "better felt than tellt" .
Of knowing who we are and where we come from.

You might have heard the familiar military lament "The Flooers o'The Forest', penned after Flodden. A numbef of lyrical interpretations are known, but the.ancient tune endures.

"The Flowers of the Forest

I've heard the lilting, at the yowe-milking,
Lasses a-lilting before dawn o' day;
But now they are moaning on ilka green loaning;
"The Flowers of the Forest are a' wede away".

As buchts, in the morning, nae blythe lads are scorning;
The lasses are lonely and dowie and wae.
Nae daffin', nae gabbin', but sighing and sobbing,
Ilk ane lifts her leglen, and hies her away.

In hairst, at the shearing, nae youths now are jeering,
The Bandsters are lyart, and runkled and grey.
At fair or at preaching, nae wooing, nae fleeching,
The Flowers of the Forest are a' wede away.

At e'en, in the gloaming, nae swankies are roaming,
'Bout stacks wi' the lasses at bogle to play.
But ilk ane sits drearie, lamenting her dearie,
The Flowers of the Forest are a' wede away.

Dule and wae for the order sent our lads to the Border;
The English, for ance, by guile wan the day:
The Flowers of the Forest, that foucht aye the foremost,
The prime o' our land are cauld in the clay.

We'll hae nae mair lilting, at the yowe-milking,
Women and bairns are dowie and wae.
Sighing and moaning, on ilka green loaning,
The Flowers of the forest are a' wede away."

are proud to support as Sponsors of Flodden Day.

Inspired by the Outlander universe, our LoullyMakes Outlandish collection captures the romance, drama, and wild beauty of the Scottish Highlands.

Pictured here is our lightweight shawl in Isle of Skye tartan, woven in Selkirk by Lochcarron of Scotland in rich, heathery tones of purple, green, and brown.

Handmade in Scotland from 100% pure wool, it’s beautifully soft, with a natural drape that moves with you. The perfect nod to our beautiful Scottish landscapes, and the stories within them.

Exciting News from British Wool & Lochcarron of Scotland !

While the wool sheds are temporarily quieter, I've spent a fascinating day out of the office with Gordon Nicolson Kiltmakers , huge thanks to Lochcarron of Scotland and British Wool for the invite to visit the Selkirk Wool Depot and discover the processes involved from fleece to yarn.... did you know, that all kilt-weight Strome tartan cloth woven by Lochcarron is now 100% Scottish Wool ?
Supported by new labelling initiatives, you will begin to find it easier to identify authentic products made using traceable, British and Scottish wool...and what a versatile fibre wool truly is ! We loved meeting everyone today, so many talented advocates for home grown wool ! πŸ‘πŸ΄σ §σ ’σ ³σ £σ ΄σ ΏπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§
