Car Seat Safety Moray

Car Seat Safety Moray Impartial car seat safety info for parents, caregivers and groups. Axkid, Britax & Avionaut retailer. Safe travels!

Hello! 👋
This page was set up by some local mums who share a passion for car seat safety awareness. Our aim is to share information about all things car seat related to allow parents and caregivers to make informed choices right for them. Let's face it - the car seat world can be confusing, overwhelming and it's hard to get clear, unbiased information sometimes. We hope we can pass on some info w

hich might help or maybe show you something you didn't know before. A child will likely use a seat for 12 years so there's lots of questions which may come up! We are by no means complete experts - we have all had our own journeys and made decisions we might not make now - but we all agree on one thing; 'know better, do better'. We’re IOSH trained and try to keep as up to date as possible in the fast paced world of car seats. This is a non-judgemental, informative place for us to share some things we have learned which we wish we had known when car seats were first added to our baby shopping lists. We can also provide 1:1 advice and answer questions, just post or message us directly. We don’t post too often, so if you don’t want to miss any posts click the 3 dots at the top of the group and enable the notifications.

☀️ It’s back! ☀️

Glad to see that big yellow ball again, but it does mean hotter travels.

☀️ open car windows/doors for a few minutes before setting off to allow hot air to escape
☀️ ensure even with summer clothing that straps don’t sit against bare skin
☀️ infant carrier hoods can keep hot air around baby - try hood down with a window shade instead
☀️ be careful of buckles as the metal can get very hot
☀️ a white muslin/cellular blanket can help reflect sun off your seat when it’s not being used

☀️ we have cooling pads available to collect featuring 3D mesh to maintain air circulation

A car seat can look right and still need adjusting.

Small details like harness height, twisted straps, or loose fit can make a real difference.

That is why it is always worth taking a second look.
Did you catch the mistakes before the next slide?

This week is Child Safety Week in the UK and we are celebrating by continuing to offer £85 off the Axkid Minikid 4 Max.

Every child deserves to be kept rear facing for as long as possible as we know it’s the safest option.

There is a difference between the legal minimum and best practice.

Across Europe, UN R129 requires rear-facing travel until at least 15 months. In Sweden, authorities and traffic safety organisations recommend keeping children rear-facing much longer.

Transportstyrelsen says children travel safest rear-facing until around four years and recommends rear-facing for as long as possible, while NTF recommends rear-facing to at least 4–5 years, preferably longer.

At Axkid, we follow the Swedish recommendation because we believe best practice should guide design and advice, not just the legal minimum. For us, that means helping children stay rear-facing for as long as possible.

18mph.

That’s not fast.
That’s a quiet street. A quick errand. A routine journey.

But at that speed, a crash has the same force as falling from an upstairs window.

And without a car seat?
There’s nothing to stop that fall.

Data shared by Brake and Child Accident Prevention Trust shows that even low-speed collisions can cause serious injury - especially for children.

And yet these are the journeys where protection is most often skipped:

“The taxi is only 5 minutes.”
“We’re on holiday, it’ll be fine.”
“It’s just a coach trip.”
“We’re not going far.”

But crashes don’t check how long your journey is.
Or where you’re going.
Or whether it’s convenient to use a car seat.

They just happen.

Short journeys. Different vehicles. Same risk.

Think rear facing only works in larger cars? Not necessarily.

With the right setup, even a compact car can make room for rear facing. In this case, placing two rear facing seats on the same side helps create more usable space and can make everyday travel easier.

A smaller car does not always mean you have to compromise. Sometimes, it is simply about finding a smarter layout.

A new Swedish review examined 99 fatal child car occupant cases from 1992 to 2024, looking at whether different restraint use might have changed the outcome.

Among children aged 0–3, the analysis suggests that up to 48% might have survived in a rear-facing seat.

Not every crash is survivable, and no single number tells the whole story. But taken together, the findings add to the evidence that rear-facing can offer important additional protection for children who still fit.

Sometimes the most important choice is not moving on too soon.
