Claire has been attacked by flying pigs!!

The last few weeks have been absolutely mental. Claire, our shop manager, has been attacked by flying pigs.

I’m not even joking.

Poor Claire was driving along the A14 to pick up her daughter when, about ten cars ahead of her, was a cattle lorry. She heard an almighty bang and all of a sudden a load of pigs came flying out of the trailer.

Traumatised Claire and her even more traumatised daughter managed to get back home safely, but I’m not entirely sure what their current relationship status with bacon is.

I know you have questions...

The event is Googleable, but I’m telling you already that the pigs, at the moment they took flight, weren’t exactly alive. No, I’m not sure who transports them like that either...

I won’t beat Claire on the drama factor of unexpected events, but I’ve had quite a collection myself.

My poorly mother landed in hospital again and, as a result, transformed herself from an eccentric old lady with an explosive character into an ancient battle witch who throws rage at everything with the regularity of a feral cat locked in a shoebox.

So tending to her gives people (myself included) an instant PTSD and an eye twitch.

When I came back from this relaxing journey, I was faced with a beautiful little river that had manifested itself at the back of our house.

Beautiful view...

Peace and quiet.

Skylarks overhead.

Elves plucking at their harps.

Jesus wandering through the garden.

A golden fish lazily circling in the pond...

The plumbers (and the neighbours) didn’t share my enthusiasm.

Apparently it was a serious leak.

Apparently our wallets became very lightweight as a result...

Soooo...

If you’ve recently had a slightly difficult time... guess what?

You are not alone.

I know that other people’s misery isn’t necessarily an uplifting circumstance (unless you’re a psychopath), BUT it’s good to know that Satan himself hasn’t developed a particular interest in your little self.

So what can you do to survive days like these without becoming a depressed fainting goat?

Well, I’m glad you asked!

First of all, burning your mobile phone may be useful.

Or at least deleting social media.

That may allow you to go from ongoing panic attacks to mild existential dread in just one week!

Also, growing courgettes helps.

Touching soil is genuinely good for you (exposes your skin to harmless natural microbes that can boost your mood, strengthen your immune system, and diversify your gut bacteria), and courgettes are ridiculously easy to grow. And ridiculously prolific. You pickle them and BOOM: Christmas gifts for all the family and friends!! (hehe)

There is one more thing worth considering.

We have an absolutely phenomenal new fragrance.

And I am spraying this on myself like there’s no tomorrow.

It’s called Indian Summer, and it smells like golden fields, warm skin, and making peace with the fact that you were only popping out for five minutes and somehow ended up watching the sunset.

Sweet orange, neroli and ylang ylang mingle with the warmth of black pepper to create something soft, rich and almost edible.

It is golden light on bare skin.

Flowers growing slightly wild.

Ripe fruit within arm’s reach.

Warm earth under your feet.

A perfume for those days when the whole world seems beautifully, extravagantly ripe. And all you really need to do is stand there and breathe it in.

Wear with oversized jumpers, bare ankles, or absolutely no sensible plans whatsoever.

And because we are now fighting Satan with courgettes, perfume and Royal Mail,

GOAWAYSATAN!

will give you FREE SHIPPING until midnight on Monday (24.08.26).

So you can buy yourself Indian Summer.

Or restock Glow.

Or anything you want, really.

And have your favourite postie, hoppery-hoping through the meadow in his shorts, bringing it directly to your lovely, deserving hands.

Speak soon, my darlings.
And hang in there.

We've prepared a parcel today for a Very Important Person in our little city.
Can you guess who it was?!
One of the considerable advantages of ordering skincare from approximately 30 seconds down the road is our extremely efficient local courier service.
Me!
But our special customer decided to pick it up herself!! And there she is!
Victoria!
The Queen of Cheese! 👑🧀 Victoria's Cheese
Vicky is testing Glow, The Herbalist Face Cream, Absolute... and the little perfume she was talking about in her story is Snowdrops & Sunshines!
No-nonsense skincare for one successful woman out there 👑

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝗴 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗿!
Over 30 degrees this week... So, despite several shops already trying to sell us autumn, we are 𝗮𝗯𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗽𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆! And neither is Lemon Sherbet.
Our ridiculously rich, 100% natural body cream does all the sensible things a body cream is supposed to do. It deeply nourishes. It softens. It looks after dry, sun-exposed skin. 𝗜𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱.
But there is another thing Lemon Sherbet does spectacularly well.

It makes skin look A-MAZING.
You know when you put shorts on, look at your legs and think: 𝘏𝘮𝘮. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘴 𝘥𝘰 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘢 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘭𝘦… 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨. And your Lemon Sherbet says: 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙙 𝙢𝙮 𝙋𝙞𝙢𝙢’𝙨. 🍋🍹

A tiny amount melted into the skin gives it that gorgeous, smooth, healthy-looking, gleaming finish that makes bare legs, arms and shoulders look reallly tempting!
No glitter or strange bronzing situation...
Just beautifully nourished skin catching the light.

And while we are discussing thighs, because apparently we are now:
𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗴.
Bare legs. Legs in leggings. Long walks. Hot days. All the glamorous realities of possessing thighs in summer.
A little Lemon Sherbet on the areas inclined to rub against one another can help things glide rather than chuff.
So yes, technically it is a body cream.
But it is also a leg beautifier and portable pot of lemon-scented happiness.

And looking at the forecast, its work here is 𝗳𝗮𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲. 🍋☀
Handmade by us in Ely, in tiny batches, with illipe butter, argan oil and beautiful botanicals.

𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗹 𝗟𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗲𝘁 𝘀𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀.
And Lemon Sherbet is currently wearing shorts!

An acid on Tuesdays, a peptide at dawn and the fermented tears of a Korean snail before bed.
𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵?
of 27-step routines, plastic promises and TikTok trends?

Because we have.
If you are a woman who has already been marketed to for twenty bloody years, you probably don't need another person telling you that the reason your skin isn't perfect is because you haven't bought 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘯𝘢𝘪𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 yet.

We make skincare for exactly that reason.
𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸.
Deeply nourishing. Natural. Effective. Made by us in Ely from botanicals, raw butters and glorious oils, without the fillers, unnecessary steps or beauty-industry theatre.
GLOW. ABSOLUTE. THE HERBALIST. LEMON SHERBET.
Your bathroom cupboard may finally know peace.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗲 𝙖𝙡𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙩 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗱𝗼. 👀
If you've been watching Cow on the Ice from afar but 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲, leave me a little 👋 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 (if Facebook won't let me message you, I'll reply and ask you to pop us a quick DM.)

I have a rather good 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁-𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿 for you.
I'm not putting it here because we don't normally do discounts and I would like to retain at least a shred of dignity. I will send it to you privately.

And because there is an actual human being doing the sending (me), rather than a ManyChat robot enthusiastically firing discount codes into the universe, 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗲 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂.
I promise it's worth waiting for.

EDIT: WE FOUND OUR LOVELY HUMANS!! 🖤
Thank you SO much to everyone who applied, shared, tagged and sent messages our way. Our little Cow-shaped vacancies have now been filled and we’re ridiculously excited to welcome our new team members.
Applications are now closed, but thank you for making this whole process considerably more pleasant than recruitment has any right to be.

A tiny Cow on the Ice-shaped opportunity has just appeared 🖤

Looking for a little pocket of extra work every week?

We're on the hunt for a lovely human to join our little Cow on the Ice family for around 2 hours on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, plus the occasional Saturday (about two a month).
You don't need years of retail experience. We'd much rather find someone who already gets Cow on the Ice. Someone who believes kindness is never out of fashion, gets excited about beautiful skincare, enjoys chatting to people, and finds joy in lining jars up perfectly (optional... but weirdly satisfying).

We'll teach you everything you need to know, cheer you on, and hopefully become the sort of colleagues who turn into friends.

Ideally, you're very local, as it's only a few hours each week and we'd love it to be easy for everyone.

If, while reading this, a tiny voice in your head whispered, "doitdoitdoit!!" we'd love to hear from you.

Please email us at [email protected] telling us about yourself (and feel free to share this post with anyone who might be our missing puzzle piece).

Don't forget to drink water and have some sun. You're basically a houseplant with complicated emotions 🖤

Spring Dreamer. Classic is not a polite spring... This is 𝗜𝗡-𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥-𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗘 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀, sunshine, windows flung open and the sudden, irrational belief that 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘣𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦. It’s bright and unapologetically joyful! The kind of scent that barges into a room and says: “𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨. 𝘞𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘶𝘱. 𝘞𝘦’𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦!!”

Think juicy clementines bursting open, golden light flooding in, the air fizzing with optimism and fresh beginnings.

If your space feels sleepy, heavy or a bit emotionally beige – this will sort it out. (Proceed with caution if you prefer subtlety).

Some days the light is so generous it asks nothing of you except to stand in it.

No tidying yourself up first. Just shoulders unclenching one at a time, the way they were always meant to.

Summer doesn't really want a plan. It wants your face tilted upward and your hands empty for a minute, which is, to be honest, a very reasonable request from a season.

This is the feeling we build our products around. A sunlight, a storm, a field, weather behaving badly, and the strange clarity of realising you feel more alive.

Lavender doesn't think of itself as skincare. Neither does h**p, rosemary or carrots.

They were busy doing their own thing in a garden somewhere, competing for sunlight and gossiping with the bees, when we asked – very politely – if they'd like a second career inside a small glass bottle.

The Herbalist is what happened next. A serum for skin that's a bit fed up. The kind of face that's been rained on, centrally heated, and asked to attend too many meetings in one week.
