959 years ago today - The Battle of Hastings ⚔️

We enjoyed our weekend at Battle Abbey for the recreation of the Battle of Hastings.

Jack fought on the Norman side whilst Lily spoke to the public about her nalbinding.

Lily worked on creating a pair of Oslo Stitch Nalbound mittens inspired by the 10th Century mitten found in Old Town of Oslo, Norway.

Last weekend, we were at Stonham Barns for their Saxon and Viking Festival!

The weekend consisted of eastern and western fighting, our Living History Encampment and an evening boat burning!

Jack won against the Vikings' champion as a Saxon champion warrior. ⚔️

An incredible weekend for the Games Expo at the NEC Birmingham!

We love the mix of gaming and living history this show has to offer! We had our hnefltafl and nine men's morris game on show this weekend alongside Lily's nalbinding.

The first picture shows our progression in our third reenactment season. The photo on the left is from this weekend with our display. The top right one is last year, no display but better kit. And the bottom right and our first NEC show and Lily's first ever show! A very basic tunic for her first show. How things have changed!!

What an amazing weekend at Flag Fen's Viking weekend.

Jack portrayed the Saxon Ealdorman Ulfcytel for the battle of Ringmere 1010.

Lily put on a display of her nalbound goods and showed 6 various stitches, including the Oslo, York, Korgen, Mammen and more! This weekend, Lily took a nalbinding test to demonstrate her knowledge and skills and was awarded 2 points (out of three)!

Sheringham Viking Festival - the first show of the new season.

An amazing day filled with Lily nalbinding all day and Jack fighting. Then ending with a parade and boat burning on the beach.

We enjoyed the Cambridge Living History Market today! Lots of goodies bought.

Here are a pair of fingerless gloves I finished recently in the Finnish stitch using beautiful wool from .co.uk 😍 They're so warm and cosy to wear ❤️

Our order from has arrived! Beautifully spun with 70% undyed Soay wool and 30% Shetland blended.

So excited to nalbind using the beautiful wool! Now to decide - What to nalbind? Which stitch to use?

A recent project! Birka strapwork with 28 square tablets.

I've been so focused on nalbinding that I haven't been tablet weaving as much. This is far from perfect with many mistakes but I'm loving the challenge! 🧶

Last weekend, I spent time learning four new stitches. I've now managed to create 7 stitches - most of them from the Finnish stitch family!

I'm now hoping to create an item in each stitch. Currently working on some fingerless gloves using the Finnish 2+2 stitch.

Eventually, I'd like to make videos on how to create each stitch 🪡🧶

Merry Yule to you all!

I finally finished my nalbound Christmas stocking using the Korgen stitch - just in time! It has taken many hours of making but I've enjoyed a December project.
