Sankofa - without returning to the past there is no future.

When I was growing up, African culture wasn't really celebrated.

It was almost a taboo to wear traditional clothing outside of weddings and funerals. In my teens, I learned to appreciate the individuality that comes with representing the continent. To truly understand the beauty of culture, you have to return to its rich history. Back in the day, Africans wore different prints and styles to represent their tribes—that's the way they took their power back from colonial empires that ruled over them. So now it's important than ever to represent where you come from so you can keep your culture alive for the next generation!
