I’ve always enjoyed making and creating, so when I fell pregnant with my first child I decided to use this opportunity to make something useful…. As my husband and I like ‘Disney’, we decided to make this the theme for our baby’s room. Not knowing the gender of our baby, we wanted it to still be neutral as well as subtle. Having searched in all the usual shops and on line, I just couldn’t find wha

t I was looking for. So, I changed my search and started looking for fabrics, and this is all where it began. I found the perfect Winnie the Pooh fabric, and a lovely lime green colour, with all the characters on it. I started with a cushion cover, and then a door stop and still had fabric left, so I covered the lamp shade. Still obsessed with ‘nesting’ and making it perfect, I searched for more fabric that complimented the original one I found. So when I came across a similar , but border type design, I knew what I could do next. We purchased some plain beige/ gold coloured curtains, and I added three border strips to the top of one set and then some tie backs for the other. Now I felt that the room was perfect – it all tied together. As our son grew up, I came across more things that I could make or adapt:

Cushions for a wooden high chair

Large toy bag ( for when we go visiting )

Little drawstring rucksack ( to put the books, and quiet toys in, when I’m out for coffee with friends)

Cot/ cot bed bumpers and pads ( to match the existing theme of the room). When we went away on holiday , I needed something to put his tooth brush/ paste and bath stuff in – so I created a wash bag for him. I realised that I could do with a similar style wash bag, as my zip up one was sometimes just too much for an overnight stay, so I made one for myself. Then, with Christmas looming, I made a few more , filled them with toiletries for my friends and family and give them as gifts. I realised too that the children’s wash bags, made perfect nappy/ wipe cases too.
